Why is anti-cheat always client-side?
Why is it not more common to implement anti-cheat on the server instead of the client? Is that not more secure? Couldn’t the server just check what vision a player should have and not provide any other information to prevent wallhacks or maphacks? Or check how fast it is possible to move to prevent speedhacks? Aimbot is a bit...

If you are at work in the middle of the night when the clocks change, do you work an extra hour in the spring and one less in the fall?

I don't understand the whole Twitter/Mastodon social media format
I recently tried to join Mastodon, and like Twitter before it, I don’t understand the premise. You follow individuals instead of topics, and if you try to follow hashtags they change on a whim all the time so you’re unlikely to get relevant posts....

Why so many people get triggered about ads nowadays?
Wherever I go, I often see the sentiment “This website has ads, so it’s trash” pop up in conversations. And honestly I don’t quite get why. 90% of the internet has always had ads, you just scroll past them and mind your business. At least they’re personalized now so you can pick a topic you like instead of diapers and...
Why is homebrewing so middle-class, straight, white, male?
While I know this survey is biased, it’s people who watch Brulosophy content and answer surveys, but my own experience backs this up: brulosophy.com/…/2024-general-homebrewer-survey-r…...
Is 0.3 quarts extra too much oil in a car?
I did an oil change. Thought the car took 4.4 quarts but it only takes 3.7 quarts. I poured in slightly under 4 quarts. The engine is a 1.5 in-line turbo (Honda Civic Si). It’s reading past the fill line slightly. How bad is it? Do I need to pour some out? What am I risking? What symptoms should I be looking for?
Why do we say, "when I look in the mirror" instead of "when I look in a mirror?"
How does genocide happen?
I can get behind murder. I feel like this, to some extend, is a genuine part of human behaviour. Even the horrific aftermath of such. But genocide truly feels inhuman to me. So I can never fundamentally understand how in history, civilizations went from point A to point B to Point Genocide. Any thoughts on this?

Could we send electric data across time?
Given the fact that data is an electric circuit of ones and zeros, flowing at the speed of light, could we technically send information across time?

Are there foods that dogs can safely eat but humans can't?
No, not talking about their own shit or vomit, har de har. I mean how dogs can’t have chocolate, can’t eat grapes. Are there things it’s no big deal for them but would be toxic for us.
Why would the NA beer industry standardize on a bottle shape that's grotesquely inconvenient, topples with minimal force, and doubles the required volume to ship?

What do you do with your time after leaving Reddit?
I am trying to cut out Reddit from my life but I’m always ending up re-installing it because I simply don’t know what do with my time. We have two small kids (1y and 3y) so I can’t simply just read more, train more, play games, watch TV, etc....

Let’s say I hypothetically had some mice pee in some plastic components that cannot be properly cleaned in any realistic way. Is it possible to heat it up to “cook off” the mouse pee nastiness without actually melting the plastic?
How does data sent over the internet know where to go?
I saw a map of undersea internet cables the other day and it’s crazy how many branches there are. It got me wondering - if I’m (based in the UK) playing an online game from someone in Japan for example, how is the route worked out? Does my ISP know that to get to place X, the data has to be routed via cable 1, cable 2 etc....
