I feel like I see signs everywhere now advertising it. Has this always been the case or just recently now that it’s a popular internet job

My understanding is that favorites are equivalent to twitter likes, and boosts are equivalent to twitter retweets, but on twitter people like way more then they retweet, so why is it different on mastodon?

Is there anything that can be done about abandoned communities? In my search for a battlestation community there is one on Lemmy.ml where the only mod is someone who hasn’t posted in 3 years and one on lemmy.world where the only mod is someone who mass created communities and has no intention of posting or doing anything....

So I’ve looked at flights and unfortunately ryanair is the only airline that does the flights at a reasonable time on the days I need/want to travel on....

I am trying both Mlem and Wefwef at the moment, and even though I select the “subscribed” options for my main feed, the posts I see are different. It seems like WefWef shows me top posts from the day before and Mlem is more current? But I still haven’t figured it out.

A lot of movies, especially horror movies (I’m watching one now) depict blind people as not having pupils. But my understanding, based on blind people I’ve met, is that the problem is usually in the lens or the retina, and that they have pupils the same as everyone else. My instance has downvoting enabled, but I’ve learned that some other instances do not. Do the vote totals look different to users on different instances? It seems like some users on instances that don’t allow downvoting are unaware that it’s not the same lemmy-wide. It would be pretty confusing for them to see their vote...

So I’m looking for a tool that can tell me the total cost of things I buy. Like if I buy item A for 1,20€, item B for 5,60€ and item C for 10€, it tells me how much the things I’m buying cost, which would be 16,80€ in this case....

I switched to Windows 11 about a year ago. A few months ago my PC started randomly crashing and rebooting, without any blue screens....

My other half discovered that some dodgy person/company had managed to send instagram messages advertising handbags to all of her followers from her account. She changed her password immediately, but what could have happened here? Is it the case that a “hacker” had access to her full instagram account, or would they have...

I watched the first 3-4 seasons before it wore thin. Now, like 5 years after its final season, I see it referenced places and the guys doing commercials. Can someone explain?
