How to block bot posts, posts and users?
They artificially inflate the size of lemmy and it makes me feel like I’m being taken advantage of.
What's it called when pronunciations are sounded out with normal letters?
I don’t mean IPA symbols (which I can’t read) but rather characters from a normal alphabet being used to phoneticise a word, e.g. excerpt is pronounced “[EK] + [SURPT]”. What would this be called? Letter-based phoneticisation?
Why do some open source mobile app developers only put their app on Google Play? Dutch
I noticed on github that some developers offer to download the app from Google Play without offering other options to download the compiled file ( the compiled file is missing on github too )....
How do you call in English
Imagine an XL table:...
Why does Lemmy (and reddit) show posts from previous page on next page?
When scrolling through Lemmy, I often will see the same posts from the previous page - usually as the first links on the current page I’m on.
What’s the deal with Western Sahara?
Everytime I see a data map on some topic, Western Sahara is always filed under ”No Data” or something similar. I know that the area is disputed by Morocco and some self governing body in the area, but that’s all I know. Is this like an Israel-Palestine thing, or something else?
Why don't app developers provide an option to disable caching or a self-cleaning cache feature (like in the Fedilab app)? Dutch
Most applications clog up the cache space on your device’s memory. You have to delete the cache manually which is not convenient. Fedilab is one of the few applications that has a self-cleaning cache function when exiting the application. Why don’t many other apps have a feature to disable caching or self-clear the cache?
Are there more secure pin backs other than the subpar butterfly ones most pins come with?
Why do some intercity busses drop you off on a street rather than a station?
(note: this is in the US, idk if it’s normal in other countries) I understand that some cities don’t have a station, in which case it makes sense, but I’m visiting family in a small city (college town) that just updated the train/bus station a few years ago, but the only bus from my major city drops me off on a random side...
I'm trying to find a story about a dog
Some weeks ago I kept seeing a story that I can’t seem to find anymore. A dog was guarding a flock or a herd, and after an attack on the animals the dog was watching over, it went missing for days tracking down a pack of wolves or coyotes and killing most or all of them. There was said to be a trail of dead pack members. The...
User Block Instance
Is there a way for a user to block an entire instance instead of individuals? Or do you have to find an instance that has blocked it?
What is the reason for the image of a camera to look further away than the same scene through my own eyes when I have the camera arms length away and closer to the thing I'm looking at?
So I’m sitting here looking at a black widow on my porch and it’s a big fat fucker. I wanted to take a pic but I don’t want to get too close. Yet the image my camera picks up looks like I am trying to snap the pic from the opposite wall of the porch when I’m only about 2 feet from the spider. Why is that?
How do I cross-post a comment?
I’ve found a comment that I like that I want to reference in another community for discussion....
Are ObviousPlant items actually planted in stores or are they merely pictures meant to convey that idea?
I’m curious if it would ever actually be possible to encounter one of his joke items in the wild, or if they merely only exist in photos....
Do I need to have an account on a specific instance to create/moderate a community there?
Assuming this is the case, what instances would you recommend? My home instance doesn’t allow community creation and I don’t necessarily want to pile everything on lemmy.world. Decentralization and all that.
How do you see posts you've liked/upvoted?
Is there a way to search post on lemmy?
I found a helpfull post last week and forgot to save it, is there a way to search for a post? All the app that i use only have search for community
Is there a name for this tune/cadence?
I’m sure most of you have heard a chant/cheer using the tune/cadence I’m talking about, but it’s really hard to describe something like this in text. Most of the chants that use this tune starts with “Let’s go” and then some two-syllable word following it. For example, “Let’s go Jackets” or “Let’s go...
Why can't multiple computers be linked to run different probabilities simultaneously to accomplish the same as a quantum computer?
The title says it all. If qubits can be in the position of a 1 and 0, why can’t multiple computers using 1s and 0s accomplish the same thing?
Can solid food be isotonic?
I know that Isotonic drinks contain similar concentrations of salt and sugar as in the human body, which makes the drink feel refreshing. Osmosis and so on. Isotonic drinks are not limited to what is branded as sport drinks - a mix of juice and sparkling water can also be isotonic....
why do my legs ache when I'm having a fever?
So I’m in my deathbed right now, fever and chills and pain everywhere but especially on my legs. Why? Whatever I caught seems to be attacking my throat. Is the leg pain directly caused by the virus, or is it a defense mechanism of my body? Thanks
how do I link a lemmy instance or community in a comment?
As title....
Is there a community to ask for community suggestions?
