Trump allies on Republican National Committee want to help pay his legal bills

KEY POINTS

  • A growing number of Republican National Committee members believe its campaign arm should help pay mounting legal bills for former President Donald Trump.
  • Such a move could strain the party’s ability to financially support other candidates in the 2024 election when Trump is expected to face off against President Joe Biden.
  • Trump faces four pending criminal cases and civil judgments of nearly $550 million in damages.

Here’s hoping!

Didn’t the news just say that the RNC had something like $10 million? They aren’t going to do shit, except weaken the entire party. I hope they give all their money to Dementia J Trump. He’ll still have to sell some stuff, and he’s going to lose in November.

NewPerspective ,

The swamp was the GOP’s money? Drain it! All of it! Give the extra to him, I don’t care.

My take is that IF (that’s a big if) Trump becomes president, then I don’t want him owing $500 million that makes him a target for bribes/blackmail/influence from enemies abroad. Not like he isn’t already and hasn’t already been influenced, but it would be worse. So if the GOP has to suck it up and pay those fees for the candidate they choose to be their guy, then I think it is in the country’s best interest to do so. Also, I’d rather they pay now than him trying to weasel out and have the federal government pay off his fines if he becomes president.

I would love nothing more than for him to go completely bankrupt (again) and lose the presidency and go to jail for the criminal charges and have his family be on the hook for all his debt. But maybe the GOP going bankrupt is a bright side.

We are way past that already.

Yup. Orange man is the biggest money pit ever. And if GOP donors don’t see that yet, it’s unlikely they ever will … until they have to declare bankruptcy of course.

He’s outright owned by Putin. So tell me how it could get worse vis a vis corruption?

Depending who holds the leash, it might even be better. (/s, he’s unfit to serve in any office in this country.)

dogslayeggs ,

It can always get worse. Never say “how could it get worse,” because it always can.

Wrench ,

That’s cute. He was already spending all his energy in trying to twist every last bit of authority he had into money and favors for himself in his first term.

He was literally selling government positions and criminal pardons to the highest bidder.

I mean, as much as I hate Trump, I do also like the idea of him weakening the GOP by draining their coffers to pay an army of lawyers, though I’m guessing he ends up stiffing at least some of his lawyers and pocketing a good portion of the proceeds. Grifters gonna grift.

I won’t be surprised when we find out those ‘allies’ who want to pay his bills are getting a cut of the grift.

Did he get his daughter on the board yet?

Promised a cut that never comes*

Do it! Drain the war chest!

Yes, I think it’s a great idea. They should pay for all his legal bills, really.
