Limeey , in Ian Watkins, singer jailed for child sex offences, ‘stabbed in prison’

It sucks that I always really liked some of their music.

ZC3rr0r ,

Shinobi Vs Dragon ninja was and is an absolute masterpiece. Sadly I don’t want to listen to it any more as Ian has ruined any joy I could get out of listening to it since the news of his abhorrent dealings came out.

For anyone who doesn’t know how truly awful this piece of shit is:

The Case of Ian Watkins

Bladerunner ,

After finding out what the password to his laptop was, I wanted to puke.

fosiacat ,

…what was it

Bladerunner ,

His password was “IFUCKKIDZ” spelled as indicated. That’s the disturbing part, it’s like internally, he was proud of it. No shame.

If you ever watched Chris Hansen’s old To Catch A Predator series, or his new series, these guys usually find a way to delude themselves into thinking they’re not the way they are, or that they’re somehow helping the victim, and I can only assume they lie to themselves because they know what they are doing is wrong and feel some shame.

Not Ian Watkins. He was proud of it. Ugh. Later in the video, after the password, you find out he even bragged about it. I had to stop there, I couldn’t even finish the video (linked by OP in comment).

Puzzle_Sluts_4Ever ,

Yeah. Charlie “Normie Jesus” Moistcritical is not the best person to look to for takes on nuanced situations. But he is of the age to have grown up loving lostprophets and did a REALLY good video summarizing how massively fucked up an evil all of this is.

Like, most 80s bands have blatant pedophiles involved. And as much as I love the lead singer on twitter, Eve 6 has some fucked up stories associated with them. But all of this is “normal” carnie/musician bullshit. ian watkins is on a completely different levels of evil.

Some bands and artists you try to ignore the “controversy” in favor of separating the art from the artist. Others are so massively fucked up that you fundamentally cannot.

essteeyou ,

Oh dear, I don’t know any of the Eve6 controversy… Nothing on Wikipedia for the band, and a quick Google search just gives results about them boycotting Spotify. What should I be looking for?

Puzzle_Sluts_4Ever ,

Nothing too bad relative to contemporaries (like I said, carnie/musician bullshit normalizes a lot of crap) but a LOT of “groupie” stories.

chemical_cutthroat ,
@chemical_cutthroat@lemmy.world avatar

Damn. Charlie catching strays.

kautau ,

Yeah the people on “to catch a predator” are disgusting, but there is a difference between “trying to seduce an underage girl into sex” and “raping a literal baby.” He’s on another level of being the worst version of a human being

It is generally considered rude to tell people to g! it themselves. Perhaps that was your intent but I hope you're a bigger person than that and it was unintentional.

Social media is for conversations. I think everyone knows how to search the interwebs.

stopthatgirl7 OP ,
@stopthatgirl7@kbin.social avatar

No, it was fully intentionally. I hate when people do “tldr”, because I consider that rude. Rudeness in, rudeness out. I went to the effort to find and link a video explaining what this dude did, only to get told it was too much effort to watch.

ZodiacSF1969 ,

I agree with you, I hate it when people expect easily findable information to be spoon fed to them. It would be one thing if they were asking to have special relativity explained to them, but this was just laziness.

stopthatgirl7 OP ,
@stopthatgirl7@kbin.social avatar

And the headline even says he was jailed for child sex offenses. That’s the tldr explanation right there if a video was too much.

eran_morad , in ‘He’s alone’: Trump arraignment sees no family, no posse, no protests

Fucking traitor. Lock him the fuck up.

Son_of_dad ,

It’s never gonna happen. At most he’ll become bogged down in lawsuits and charges till he dies. But there’s no way they’ll ever allow a u.s president to set foot in jail

Zetta ,

Hard disagree.

This stupid cuck is going to jail 100% if he does not win the next presidential election. Our legal system can be pretty fucked up sometimes but it’s not that fucked up, this guy literally tried to overthrow our democracy.

Lucidlethargy ,

I’m not saying he’s not going to jail, but I am saying our system is absolutely fucked. This dude is free years after openly trying to overthrow our democratic processes. The most blatant example (Georgia) isn’t even one of the indictments he’s currently facing.

WoahWoah ,

Yet.

scoredseqrica ,

“it’s not that fucked up” - doubt.

treefrog ,

All the legal analysis I read has suggested house arrest because of the secret service for life deal.

I hope he does real time but I’m not optimistic.

TechnoBabble ,

House arrest in Trump’s giant resort mansion.

It makes sense, but it’s more than a little unsatisfying.

Personally I’d love to see Trump in ADX Florence.

Osirus ,

If he doesn’t win the next presidential election, he’ll go to jail… I’d say that’s REALLY fucked up bud.

SouthEndSunset ,

I was told in my local pub yesterday that someone with a criminal record can still be president. But I’m British, and drink with people who chat shit. The landlord in said pub also said that Oceangate was eaten by a megalodon, and landlords like to chat shit.

roy_mustang76 ,

Someone who is literally in jail can become President, technically. What the day-to-day reality of that would be, I’ve no clue. But it’s technically possible, and we’ve had people (most notably Eugene Debs) run from behind bars.

SouthEndSunset ,

Yeah this was literally the conversation, with some speculation.

SouthEndSunset ,

Can he pardon himself?

TheLowestStone ,
@TheLowestStone@lemmy.world avatar

On the federal charges.

roy_mustang76 ,

Theoretically, on the federal charges, but not any state charges (such as the ones expected to be brought in Georgia)

Of course, a self-pardon has never been tested, and while the composition of the Supreme Court should be favorable to him doing so, it’s not guaranteed that they would actually be on board. There would be a constitutional crisis if he tried to self-pardon, and the Supreme Court ruled that he could not (which could be nearly solved by impeachment of either the President or various Justices, but that will not happen under the present dysfunction of the Senate)

elbarto777 ,

cuck

I hate this word so much because his supporters used it ad nauseum.

But I’m okay with it just this one time.

Zetta ,

Ahh, I wasn’t aware of that

I’ve been to Portland 3x and nobody has ever stopped me from pumping my own gas. I’ve definitely interacted with attendants inside prior to gassing up as well. Wonder if it’s due to the Canadian license plates/accent?

    Dude had to write like five best selling books and be in the Senate for 100 years before he made $1,000,000 dollars, even though insider trading is legal for members of Congress.

    Omg, he formed an LLC to publish his books and pay a personal assistant. What a controversy! /s

    Oh please, now you’re going back to the card Thomas played when Anita Hill told the truth about him. Demanding we give someone a pass on douchebaggery and corruption because God forbid we hold a black man accountable is racist. Not as racist as the killing of George Floyd, or the innumerable events that comprise systemic racism, but letting Justice Thomas corrupt the Court doesn’t do one thing to ameliorate any of that. Not that he cares. He’d throw Rosa Parks under the bus in a heartbeat.

    Kolanaki ,
    @Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

    Google is pretty brain dead today tho.

    HiddenLayer5 , (edited )

    I’m sure that pretty much no Google employee is happy with this. But it’s the classic “I don’t want to lose my place near the top of the industry which I’ve spend my entire life getting to, so I can’t criticize my employer or the direction the industry is going in any way.” Self policing and going along with whatever the man decides so you don’t lose your job and means of supporting yourself and your family. Same with a lot of the people working on the Web Integrity thing I imagine.

    ArbitraryValue ,

    There are a lot of different places in the industry where these Google developers could work. I am employed by a company where developers have flexible schedules, no overtime work (except in unusual circumstances), and three days a week of work-from-home. The catch is that my company pays a lot less than Google does - still enough for an upper-middle-class lifestyle, but less. So our developers tend to be people who have children and want to spend more time with their families, and they’re willing to take a pay cut to do that. For the sort of person who has the option of working at Google, “supporting your family” means working less, not more.

    Google’s developers are people who prefer higher pay and/or a more fast-paced environment. They might not like this policy, but they don’t want to leave. They could if they wanted to.
