Seems China is always in Crisis according to Western news. The consequences seem to not be there though.
Instead wages increased threefold within ten years. It is funny that the Isle of Man got the most searches for “china crisis”, I would guess cause it is a tax haven and therefore sensitive to such “news”?
Without joking, China did manage to succeed through ten crisis and you can read Wen Tiejun’s book about it
Today: a weatern basement-dweller furiously defends a murderous authoritarian regime, while eating a burger and shit-posting on the world-wide(almost)-web.
What is it with lemmygrad weirdos and telling people to go touch stuff? Lemmy isn’t the authoritarian, murderous regime of china, I’m free to do as I please.
Touch grass, you project stronger than the Leica Cine 1. If the admins would do your job your comment would be deleted already. Click my link, does that look like there are often news about crisis that don’t come to fruition? Sure does. Do you disagree with the book you can receive from Springer Link?
While property dealings can have effects (look at my link at see at 2008/9 how impactful the financial crisis from the US was even for China), the article doesn’t manage to break beyond the general sentiment. Articles like that are often followed by high noise low signal comments which mirror sentiment of the user base, in this case mostly US dwellers that are underemployed. So a bit Sinophobia is expected, likely with topics related to property, so “Ghost cities”, “expropriations”, “shady construction” while using standards the people don’t actually hold up in regards to their own countries.
Their population demographics are a problem that is going to be much harder to manage. If they succeed, good on them for figuring it out. But they’ve managed because they’ve had fresh population to feed into their economy. That is NOT going to happen going forward. So they better change their strategy.
Honestly, I hope they do for the sake of the human beings living on that piece of earth currently ruled by the CCP. I actually wish them no ill will and the rest of the world is likely to suffer if china has a full on collapse.
It’s disgusting that homosexuality is seen as such an abhorrent thing in this day and age. Are all humans not capable of love? If the answer is a resounding yes, then why are we stopping consenting adults from expressing this? Because of some archaic scripture from thousands of years ago? Excuse my French here, Lebanon, but kindly get to fuck.
This is exactly why the separation of church and state is supposed to exist in democracies. The zealots will continue to take away your rights until morale improves.
I'll just mention that in the middle east the vast majority of people don't support LGBT rights. Bringing up the separation of church and state makes no sense in this context.
They don’t support those rights cause they have been brainwashed by their religion. Maybe if religion was removed from government, that wouldn’t be the case, at least not to this extent.
I am such a mental case that I worked for a company that designs and sells machines to make computer chips. I speak 3 languages, and when I got my superior driverlicense I could effortless use manual transmission. But I am still a mental case according to a “smart” American
As a gay man, these are my thoughts every single day. Do I not deserve love? Is some old book really more important than what’s happening now? I just don’t get it.
It’s not about the book, it’s not even about sexuality. Yes these are the justifications they use, but at the core it’s all about finding someone they can hurt, and they found you. The cruelty is the point.
This seems a bit oversimplified ? I am no scholar, but as far as I can tell it’s phobias all the way down : these islamic lawmakers (certainly not using the term muslim here as I reserve it to refer to decent religious people) don’t know shit about homosexuality, and as we know ignorance holds the door open for bigotry and hate. This quickly becomes self-perpetuating as gay folks have no way of changing that status quo without risking their lives, and become invisible in these societies. I would say it’s about difference, and difference in sexuality certainly
Do you ever think how messed up it is people wear crosses? It really is wearing the Iron Age equivalent of a swastika. It’s almost as if they are wearing the exact opposite symbol of Jesus while actively subverting his message. Hmmmmm
If I was tortured to death for some shit i didn’t do, the last thing I’d want to see when I resurrect is people claiming to love me with a little version of the torture device that killed me around their necks.
Weird thing is that it started as a symbol. Believers carrying a cross, albeit a small symbolic one, was a sign of sympathy and emulation with the sacrifice Christ did, one of which was carrying his own cross, in order to save mankind from sin. But of course it was distorted and fetishized to the point of ridicule. Christians aren’t exactly the most well versed on the beliefs of their own cult.
A bunch of years ago I was at my brother in laws bachelor party. It was mid summer along a river so we were drinking and enjoying the weather and a bonfire. One dude had this huge cross tattooed on his back, he was BiL’s coworker friend and I had never met him before. He was saying some pretty awful shit and then started to get into racist shit against Mexicans. I can’t remember exactly what I said but it was basically “you say these things while showing off that tattoo? Did you get it because you thought it looked cool or do you even know what the cross means?” My BiL asked me to drop it but its always reminded me of how much some of these people are complete idiots and maybe they are trying to be better but wrapping yourself in these symbols and failing to even meet a baseline of understanding is just so disgusting to me. A thousand years ago, I am sure one of us would have tried to kill each other over that moment.
Yeah this shit even happens in local elections. Our republican sheriff candidate was decided at a republican meeting rather than an voter primary, and to vote at the meeting you had to sign a pledge. It felt like the year 1905.
They just removed restrictions for Brits that were in the UK between 1980-1996 too, so I guess they’re just getting around to opening things up and this was on the list.
I was stationed in UK and couldn’t donate blood as a result. That was only ten years ago. Since they opened it back up I am getting constant calls to donate.
Why? AIDS was a devestating epidemic. The blood banks were slow to act at all, and as a result many haemophiliacs acquired the disease and died. Gay men were the largest risk group for spreading and contracting it, so it makes sense to screen them out.
It made sense in a crisis situation 40 years ago. It made zero sense the last few years to have such a discriminatory rule that also neglected to prevent risk from heterosexual anal sex.
In my country gay men account for 90% of all HIV infections. It’s very hard to ensure blood is free of HIV, as blood is infectious within three months of infection but won’t test positive
A judge who orders anyone to attend a class held by the ADF ought to be removed from the bench. They’re as interested in religious liberty as a shark is interested in veganism.
The way I read it is that he was pissed that they didn’t carry out the original order by the court, so he was just shelling out a punishment that would get his point across.
I think you’re on to something with that, it’s just not very judicially appropriate to have a temper tantrum in court and the choice of ADF specifically (since they’re well-known for shenaniganery when it comes to social issues) is suspect. Maybe the judge wasn’t aware of their history and chose them because the name sounded good but in a position where you’re relied upon to use sound and reasonable decision-making skills, it is a problem.
Neither ignorance nor malice are acceptable from the bench and, after reading up on Judge Brantley Starr’s biography, I’m leaning toward this being a case of his personal values being pushed on others.
It breaks my heart to see people that are trying to good get hurt or killed by those only trying to turn a profit. I have to wonder, at what point to enough people become so sick of the violence that follows cartels like this that you start getting significant peoples militias set up to protect local communities?
This just means it’s a variant with changes to the virus’ properties. Might come with decreased vaccine efficacy, possible increased severity or spread, but it’s not necessarily an increased public health risk, that’d be a “variant of concern”, which is when the variant significantly changes the way the virus behaves.
