I grew up not far from here and yeah, after storms this is not uncommon to see, sadly. It’s such a mess there with the oil & gas companies, chemical plants, and refineries. They offer good paying jobs for men with just a high school diploma. They’re highly sought after, but they’re destroying the state between dredging, spills, leaks, etc. The fishermen and other seafood industries are hurt by it, as well as the wetlands and environment, but the residents just can’t quit the addiction. And the state offers subsidies and rebates and tax breaks to the big companies, so Louisiana isn’t even compensated the way they should be, like in other states. It sucks and that’s why “Louisiana brain drain” is a real thing that just makes the problem worse. So many young people who get a higher education in other areas leave soon after because they know they have brighter futures elsewhere.
Why does god? The vast preponderance of abortions happen in the same window as the vast preponderance of miscarriages, which can happen to 87 percent of fertilized embryos in the case of in vitro fertilization, and some other smaller but also shockingly high number for in vivo fertilization.
Also if you don’t want ‘innocent babies’ to be killed why have such a hard on against prophylactics and plan b, especially since it takes 24h for sperm and egg to actually merge DNA and form a new organism? Why have an issue with birth control or porn or premarital conjugation and why make it everyone else’s issue?
If women are getting abortions in the same period that God randomly gives miscarriages, I tend to think they are actually part of the same thing and that the feeling the prospective mother has about her future child being unwanted is just one final ‘God given’ protection against creating something broken.
Sounds like a decent thought and Amtrak is all “that’s too expensive!” But for improving the infrastructure they should either eat the cost or get aid for it.
Nah, Byford is 100% right (as usual) in saying this part of the plan is completely unnecessary.
As someone who uses Penn station every day, there are already a ton of infrastructure improvements in progress, and they will be plenty sufficient without demolishing block 780 (btw 30th & 31st Streets and 7th and 8th Ave). That block also holds the one remaining piece of the original Penn station and a beautiful and historic church, so it would be a real shame to demolish it.
Here’s another article that explains and shows renderings of some of the $1.5b in improvements that are already funded and approved.
The Orange County Public Schools (OCPS) system in Florida has announced new guidance that means trans teachers will be misgendered and students will need parental consent for “any deviation” from their legal name.
