After an open call for international volunteers, the Ukrainian military attracted nearly 20,000 fighters from around the world. Within weeks, there were already so-called American “Boogaloo Bois” flying out.

The author of this article would really appreciate it if you didn’t look into that 20K figure.

Reading news articles about Xitter is more and more like viewing an alternate timeline. I know no one who uses it, I never see it, and it’s very existence is questionable.

I know lazy journalists use it all the time, but those are just alternate-reality-adjacent things that will be dismissed anyway. No one’s referencing Xitter as a source of authority on anything. And for good reason.

Yeah, I think the logic goes about like this:

He wasn’t even there, it’s fake news from the libtards

And if he was there, he didn’t do it, he was there to stop things like that from happening

and if he did do it, she had it coming being a whore

and if she wasn’t a whore and was being trafficked it was her own fault he only likes women who don’t get trafficked.

and if it wasn’t, he’ll just put you on his day 1 list.

  • Grogon , (edited ) in The rich now own a record share of stocks, about 93% of U.S. households' stock market wealth is held by the top 10%

    It’s actually insane knowing that so many people on this planet live in extreme poverty, in slums, have no safe access to food and water and yet we have many single humans buying 15 cars, villas worth 15 million, yachts etc.

    At this point I shouldn’t take me out of the equation because even though I am not rich I still buy useless stuff I might not need and someone else needs the money more than I do.

    But I just can’t wrap my head around that a lot of individuals have so much money. No human should have 10x more than an average person needs. What justifies someone making albums and selling them for 15$ and that person earns 20 million $ cause so many people buy the album for 15$. At some point the money should flow to programs or other things that benefit society.

    Sure the album is great, thats why it is selling, but why a nurse for example is doing hard work and just will never earn that money. I’m pretty sure most nurses have done a lot more things during their career that SHOULD be worth millions. But thats not the point. Even nurses shouldn’t have more than 10x what they need. No one needs it. It’s great to have but no one needs it.

    ZK686 , in Michelle Obama says she’s terrified about potential outcome of 2024 election

    Oh brother…her and her elite inner circle will be fine. When I say BOTH sides are guilty of using scare tactics to get votes, this is what I’m talking about. Democrats and the Left want to scare people into thinking the world will end if a Republican becomes President. They all said the same thing when Trump became President in 2017.

    Snowpix ,
    @Snowpix@lemmy.ca avatar

    “Both sides” is a tired old argument that doesn’t hold water. If you haven’t seen the damage Republicans have done in the past 8 years on the Federal and State level, you need to look harder, my dude. The Democrats aren’t amazing, but they aren’t actively stripping people’s rights away and trying to erase minority groups from existence. There is no Democratic “Plan 2025”.

    ZK686 ,

    It’s a balance. I don’t agree with everything that the Republicans do, just like I don’t agree with everything the Democrats do. However, both parties are flawed and both parties are doing things in the interests of different groups.

    FlashMobOfOne , in Staff Warned About the Lack of Psychiatric Care at a VA Clinic. They Couldn’t Prevent Tragedy.
    @FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

    There’s no more money for mental health services at the VA, but we’ll find another $200 billion for Ukraine and Gaza, absolutely. The neglect we have for our own people in order to fight wars we shouldn’t be involved in is unconscionable.

    SkyezOpen ,

    Ah yes, the only reason we don’t have free healthcare for everyone is because of the cold war era equipment we gave to Ukraine. Fuck outta here.

    FlashMobOfOne ,
    @FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

    Chickenhawks always come back with some facsimile of your reply. They love to pretend that war is cheap.

    At the end of the day, you’re just perfectly comfortable with the neglect of our people in favor of funding more war: econlib.org/how-much-is-u-s-aid-to-ukraine-costin….

    Look at Canada, by contrast, which spends 26 billion a year on war and has universal health care. Must be nice to live in a country that isn’t full of self-important warmongers.

    SkyezOpen ,

    The war in Ukraine isn’t depriving you of universal Healthcare. Even if we didn’t give them jack shit, we still wouldn’t have it because our politicians don’t give a fuck. Equating the two is so incredibly disingenuous.

    FlashMobOfOne , (edited )
    @FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

    More excuses.

    What’s disingenuous is how you can pretend that tacking on another 100 billion unbudgeted to an already trillion-plus war budget is somehow insignificant. That’s even more true given the history you have to ignore of how the war industry in the US has wrangled us into war after war after war since the 80’s, serving no purpose except to drive us into debt.

    SkyezOpen ,

    The fact that you think that’s cash funding proves you don’t even know what aid is being sent. The majority of Ukraine aid is COLD WAR EQUIPMENT. The US was literally about to pay to dismantle old shells because their shelf life was coming up. Instead they saved money by sending them to Ukraine. Those super amazing game changing HIMARS and ATACAMS were built in the 90s and, news flash, already paid for. Just because they tell us how much the equipment is worth doesn’t mean that much money literally came out of this year’s budget.

    FlashMobOfOne ,
    @FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

    Over 100 billion of it is.

    Do you think 2 billion more for the VA in every state would make a difference?

    I certainly do.

    ghostdoggtv ,

    Yup.

    It’s bullshit that we’re so enthusiastically supportive of war.
