Conservatives gonna love this

afraid_of_zombies , in Automaker Ford recalls almost 42,000 F250, F350 trucks for safety

Maybe stop making them.

confusedwiseman ,

Is it really that the truck shouldn’t exist, or that people shouldn’t drive them as an everyday vehicle? I mean they have a purpose, and it’s not getting beer and chips from the grocery store.

I’m good with the disapproval of the people that suck, but I feel like it’s getting directed incorrectly.

afraid_of_zombies ,

There really is no use for those vehicles. I am sure someone can come up with a contrived edge case but I don’t care.

What load do you have that can only be moved by a fully loaded F350. I will wait why you come up with a contrived situation.

I see no examples where a F350 is the only vehicle that can do the tasks listed.

No because you haven’t actually answers the question.

    ilostmymuse ,

Ever heard of farming? I don’t think it’s an edge case.

There are legitimate uses. Suburban grocery getters is not one of them though.

    afraid_of_zombies ,

My inlaws are farmers and I spent part of my childhood on a failed one. Tell me what task a F350 would preform that it alone could perform luxury features and all. Cause my inlaws do fine with their mopeds and tractors.

It is amazing to me how this works. You are intellectually aware that over half the human race lives in a belt from India to South East Asia but you assume that literally everyone you talk to online is some accountant from the burbs. So weird. I have rode in the back of a heavily modified small pickup, I have driven a moped, I have changed the battery acid on my moped, I have milked the cows, and gleaned, and shovels shit. Stop assuming that I can’t grasp what a farm is like when I have been and helped out on ones in one of the poorest parts of the world.

    There are legitimate uses.

Look, between me and you. We both know why men with low to no skill jobs buy these vehicles. They are trying to have something big and important looking to distract away from somethings that are not so big or important. Me I drive a small economy car, because I have no shame in that department.

    afraid_of_zombies ,

    Me or those truck owners?

    Mac ,

Bigger vehicles should require higher license classes that require more driver training, fees, legality, and roadworthiness checks.

    CmdrShepard ,

They do here in the US.

    Mac ,

I’m referring to full-size trucks and SUVs such as the F250 and F350, which the article is specifically about. Not commercial vehicles.

WhiteHawk , in Texas inmates soaking bedsheets in toilet water to cool off in unairconditioned prisons

Wait, is “unairconditioned” actually a word?

    stembolts ,

There is no rule dictating what is and what isn’t a word.

Language is an ever changing object.

Was an idea communicated by expressing the sound? It’s a word.

You didn’t do this, but some people so firmly cling to the idea of rules (which as we have covered, do not exist) that they will feign ignorance at the introduction of an unfamiliar presentation. I find it odd.

This could lead into a topic about how everything around us, society similarly, has no rules. It’s just a collection of ideas stacked haphazardly, any of it can be changed by any one of us. But I will stop there.

    bobman ,

    Well said.

Unfortunate but not shocking to be honest.

Only recently did smartphone cameras get better at detecting darker skinned faces in software, and that was something they were probably working towards for a decent while. Not all that surprising that other camera tech would have to play catch up in that regard as well.

Md1501 , in Muslim call to prayer can now be broadcast publicly in New York City without a permit

So see if the city has like a max db for speakers, get a device to measure the decibels and complain on that front. Let them know you are not arguing about the prayer ( sucks but I think that battle is lost for now) but the noise level is disruptive

    CrayonRosary ,

see if the city has like a max db for speakers

Houses of worship can broadcast up to 10 decibels over the ambient sound level, the mayor’s office said.
