MisterFrog , in US Postal Service electric trucks are finally here and drivers love them
@MisterFrog@lemmy.world avatar

Hey American modern pick up truck heads. Notice how normal the bonnet is? Notice how you can SEE enough to not run people over? This is a true utility vehicle. Look how massive this bad boy is without being a death machine šŸ‘

Sterile_Technique , in Brazil judge withdraws $3.3 million from Musk's Starlink and X to pay for social media fines
@Sterile_Technique@lemmy.world avatar

3.3m / 182b = 0.0018% of Elon Muskā€™s wealth.

What percentage of your wealth do you lose if you get caught driving 5mph over the speed limit?

This shit needs to be proportional to both severity of the crime and total wealth.

credo , in Brazil judge withdraws $3.3 million from Musk's Starlink and X to pay for social media fines

Should have withdrawn $2,299,999 just so Musk would have to pay that last dollar himself.

PugJesus , in Hawaii wildfire victims made it just blocks before becoming trapped by flames, report says

It found ā€œno evidenceā€ of Hawaii officials making preparations for the wildfire, despite days of warnings that critical fire weather was coming, and that the lack of planning hindered efforts to evacuate Lahaina before it burned.

Jesus Christ.

unphazed , in Colorado teen shot in the face by town councilman after going to home to ask permission to take homecoming photos

So Iā€™m reading idiot who canā€™t read a situation and who is super scared, also has shit trigger discipline and as a result a kid was injured and possibly damaged for lifeā€¦ we really need to at the very least make training a requirement, even just a written exam would helpā€¦

octopus_ink ,

we really need to at the very least make training a requirement, even just a written exam would helpā€¦

Cue gun nuts, ā€œā€¦shall not be infringed!ā€

SoleInvictus , (edited )

I live in a state with an online training requirement and itā€™s a joke. The employees at sporting goods stores actually encouraged me to quickly click through to the end and print the results.

As someone who supports firearm ownership, I also believe it should require a background check, a thorough psychological evaluation, and equally thorough, in-person safety training and testing, all repeated periodically in order to maintain ownership.

Empricorn , in Colorado teen shot in the face by town councilman after going to home to ask permission to take homecoming photos

We need to admit that some of the people fanatical about gunsā€¦ really want to kill someone with one.

Snapz , in Fears mount that election deniers could disrupt vote count in US swing states

Donā€™t be afraid, plan for the eventuality.

norimee , in It took 50,000 gallons of water to put out Tesla Semi fire in California, US agency says

See, thatā€™s why Iā€™m so glad they cleared a whole forest in a water protection area to build their german gigafactory.

Water and trees are totally overrated.

MyOpinion , in JD Vance now says Haitian immigrants are spreading HIV after bizarre pet-eating claim flops

Republicans are saying all the quiet things out loud these days.

some_guy , in JD Vance now says Haitian immigrants are spreading HIV after bizarre pet-eating claim flops

Oh cool, do they also give you cancer?

rtxn , in A tech company hired a top NYC officialā€™s brother. A private meeting and $1.4M in contracts followed

Philip Banks

Ah crap, itā€™s real. Banks wants to empty the banks, fill our streets with banks, and run a bank making operation out of his banks.

Lighttrails ,

Xzibit?

NOT_RICK , in Trump ally Laura Loomer called herself ā€˜white advocateā€™, audio reveals
@NOT_RICK@lemmy.world avatar

I mean yeah sheā€™s obviously a fucking Nazi

VubDapple , (edited )

Itā€™s the strangest thing when people who were targets of Nazi persecution become Nazis themselves (Loomer is Jewish). But then again, it also seems to be a feature of far left personality organization to behave this way. Like Roy Cohn (Trumpā€™s long ago attorney/mentor) was gay but denied it including when he died from AIDS. Some kind of self-hatred and projection combined. As though ones sins could be pushed off onto something other which can be persecuted as a scapegoat, which as I think about it is a well known narcissistic family dynamic. In any event, itā€™s Weird!

njm1314 , in A tech company hired a top NYC officialā€™s brother. A private meeting and $1.4M in contracts followed

Is New York school system the largest? I thought it was Los Angeles. I could have sworn Iā€™ve read that before.

girlfreddy OP ,

Wikipedia says NYC, as does Census.gov and Ballotpedia.

voracitude ,

Itā€™s not an immutable number, populations fluctuate over time.

fpslem , in Aldi raises starting pay for store employees and warehouse workers

Aldi employees do a lot (stocking, cleaning, cashiering, etc.) but are paid relatively well and get solid hours. The stores I have visited seem to retain their workers for long periods, too.

nondescripthandle , in Biden moves to crack down on Shein and Temu, slow shipments into US

Wierd to claim de minimus is being ā€˜abusedā€™ when simply more people are using it. Itā€™s not as if people ordering from Shien are breaking up their orders to ship in packages less than 800 dollars, theyā€™re just not spending that much on a single order of clothing.

Fiivemacs ,

Yes, but your not thinking about the American investors.
