norimee , in 'It just exploded': Springfield woman claims she never meant to spark false rumors about Haitians

“I just wanted to be hateful and racist in private with my 500 Facebook friends. I didn’t want others to know that”

Its the same as with this woman who sparkt the riots in the UK recently, by spreading false information she had from a russian bot.

Actions have consequences. Even Facebook posts.

Crazyslinkz ,

Literally had this talk with my son. “You are responsible for your own actions”

Vikthor , in JD Vance now says Haitian immigrants are spreading HIV after bizarre pet-eating claim flops

JD Vance spreads HIV

rumours.

eran_morad ,

To couches.

kambusha ,

I heard JD Vance spreads HIV on his morning toast every day, and then feeds it to his cats. Pass it on.

Badeendje , (edited ) in Fears mount that election deniers could disrupt vote count in US swing states
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Lot of people gonna end up in jail with actual election interference charges. And since all these voting places have cameras it will be easy to prove. I’d also suggest all election workers and security have bodycams for the day…

Professorozone ,

I don’t think you are aware of how this works. If Trump wins, stolen or not, no one on his side gets prosecuted and the video from those cameras was doctored; fake! Look at the cases against him that have been dropped since the supreme Court ruling saying he has limited immunity.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah… if he wins it will be horrible. The US will go down a dark path and I fear they will drag the whole world with them.

fine_sandy_bottom , in Fears mount that election deniers could disrupt vote count in US swing states

Everyone has known this would happen for three last 3 years. Have the dems done anything at all?

fine_sandy_bottom , in ABC Slams Trump’s Latest Conspiracy Theory About Debate Loss

LOL. It’s like any tertiary level test. You don’t know the questions but you do know the content. Learn the content and tailor it to the questions.

FlyingSquid , in Michaela DePrince: America's trailblazing ballerina dies at 29
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

That’s just awful. Anyone who dies that young has a tragic death, but it’s so much more tragic when you achieve the level of accomplishment she did.

Ballet does wreck your body though. I wonder if that contributed to whatever ended up causing her death.

KingGordon ,

Its so sad. She was a bright shining light.

Maeve ,

DePrince made a remarkable journey from suffering as an orphan in war-torn Sierra Leone to numerous accolades in the world of international dance.

That probably wrecks a body, too.

FlyingSquid , in Fake retro video game ring worth €50m smashed in Italy
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

This is, IMO, the only reason that this should have been stopped:

All the devices were fitted with non-certified batteries and electrical circuits and did not meet EU technical or safety standards.

Other than that, forget it. Nintendo and CAPCOM aren’t making significant amounts of money from Super Mario Bros. or Street Fighter II.

ASDraptor ,

Fact is these devices are not illegal because they can run retro games. What is illegal is selling them with the games inside.

If the batteries were not legally compliant, that’s a whole different matter. But the article puts the focus on how they could play “licensed” games and were illegal when that’s a blatant lie. These consoles are completely legal (from a copyright standpoint) if they are sold without any games and you then get the games by yourself.

PugJesus ,

Aren’t these things usually expensive because they’re being passed off as genuine collector’s items?

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Possibly, although the article was not clear on that point. That would definitely be a legal issue. I just object to the ROMs part.

hume_lemmy , in Traveler ordered to pay more than $5,000 in fuel costs after flight diverted due to bad behavior

The story in the article about the guy who tried to get into the cockpit is amazing… he’s lucky he didn’t get himself killed by the other passengers. Since that little incident twenty years ago even Granny will chew on your face if it looks like you’re pulling that shit.

FlyingSquid , in JD Vance now says Haitian immigrants are spreading HIV after bizarre pet-eating claim flops
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Just say “black people,” Vance. You obviously just mean black people but you don’t think you can get away with that, so you say “Haitian immigrants” as if that wasn’t a dog whistle so loud that a partially-deaf person could hear it.

fluxion , (edited ) in Brazil judge withdraws $3.3 million from Musk's Starlink and X to pay for social media fines

This was the only they were gonna get paid. Musk couldn’t even be bothered to pay the agreed lease on his own headquarters. And that was before he jammed his head up Trump’s asshole so he’s probably even more contemptuous about paying his dues now.

werefreeatlast , in Marjorie Taylor Greene Calls Out Laura Loomer’s Racism Against Kamala Harris: "White House Will Smell Like Curry"

My office smells like beans some days and other days like pasta and other days like chocolate chip or even jalapenos. It depends on what smelly food I have for lunch.

FlyingSquid , in ABC Slams Trump’s Latest Conspiracy Theory About Debate Loss
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Let’s say he’s right… let’s say “the fix was in” and let’s say the hosts were out to get him.

No one made him talk about eating pets. No one made him talk about Harris giving illegal immigrants gender reassignment surgery in prison. No one made him say that Harris needs to sign a bill right now that congress didn’t have to pass. No one made him say Biden doesn’t know whether or not he’s alive. Etc.

He lost the debate because he ranted and raved like a complete nutball.

Projection

Cephalotrocity , in Michaela DePrince: America's trailblazing ballerina dies at 29

Quite a few public deaths of late with no reason given. When someone like this, so young and accomplished, dies it is in the public interest that the reason be revealed. There could be systemic abuse etc… and I would like to know steps are being taken to prevent this sort of tragedy from recurring if possible.

LesserAbe ,

Often in a news article when someone is described as dying “suddenly” without any other explanation it’s understood to be a euphemism for suicide.

tacosanonymous ,

That’s not true. Accidental death is just as common if not more so.

FlyingSquid , (edited )
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Drug overdose is also often a possibility.

Edit: Why am I getting downvoted? I didn’t mean she overdosed. I’m just saying that’s a possibility when someone announces a famous person’s sudden death but we don’t find out until later. See: Prince.

tacosanonymous ,

I was including that as accidental.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Fair.

protist , (edited )

It’s actually not “in the public interest” for details about how she died to be made public. Thinking that you’re owed that information is a symptom of our voyeuristic, celebrity-worshipping culture

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

This is the same shit anti-vaxxers were saying a few years ago. “So many mysterious deaths… could it be vaccines?!?

Cephalotrocity ,

Yes, what a contentious ask: If your death is newsworthy, then so are all its particulars. How dare we!

girlfreddy ,
@girlfreddy@lemmy.ca avatar

When someone like this, so young and accomplished, dies it is in the public interest that the reason be revealed.

Do we want to know? Yes.

Do we have a right to know? No.

Case closed.

Cephalotrocity ,

Do we have a right to know? No.

Incorrect. Death certificate is a public document listing, among other things, the COD.

QBertReynolds ,
@QBertReynolds@sh.itjust.works avatar

The vast majority of states limit who has access to death certificates.

Cephalotrocity ,

You can’t get your hands on the certified copy of a death certificate unless you’re an authorized individual. But in many states, any member of the public can request an informational copy of a death certificate.

girlfreddy ,
@girlfreddy@lemmy.ca avatar

So not public then.

I see.

girlfreddy , (edited )

Death certificate is a public document

Then go find it. Nobody is stopping you.
