vrek , in Child abuse images removed from AI image-generator training source, researchers say

Great they removed them… Did they report the images to the authorities?

ForgotAboutDre , in Young girls are using anti-aging products they see on social media. The harm is more than skin deep

This is the danger of allowing unregulated media, entertainment and advertisement towards children. She didn’t come up with these ideas on her own. She was actively pursued and encouraged to do this by YouTube children entertainers and advertisers. They did it for profit and will do it again, then blame parents and governments for letting them do it.

Never before have businesses had this much direct access to children. They see it as a great market. They are easy to manipulate, uniformed and highly sensitive. These are the reasons we limited who, when and what could be advertised to them in the past. It was much easier with TV.

FlyingSquid , in The Covid vaccine just got a lot more expensive—if you're uninsured

Good thing viruses really care about insurance status.

1000s of years of being frozen in permafrost gave them time to rethink our future. :p

800XL , in X caught blocking links to NPR, claiming the news site may be 'unsafe'

Fuck Elon Musk.

Daveyborn , in Ford to recall 90,736 vehicles over engine valve issue, US regulators say
@Daveyborn@lemmy.world avatar

Saw a similar number a few weeks back and had to double check, different vehicles this time. Ford really hitting these back to back. So glad we bailed them out years ago.

Bonifratz , in ‘Dangerous and un-American’: new recording of JD Vance’s dark vision of women and immigration

I keep hearing about that hillbilly book of his and how it’s supposedly such a good read. But all I’ve seen and heard from him I find really lacklustre and uninspiring. It’s just the usual redpilled mAsCuLiNe Qcumber nonsense. So what gives? Did he write a great book and then turn dumb? Or was the book bad to begin with?

FlyingSquid OP ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

I doubt he wrote it. These people never write their own book. He told a bunch of lies to a ghost writer.

collapse_already , in X caught blocking links to NPR, claiming the news site may be 'unsafe'

Yet Twitter would probably sue other sites like Facebook if Facebook blocked them. Hypocrite

Subverb , in ‘This was a terrible idea’: the incident that broke Republicans’ DeSantis fever

Don’t underestimate his getting absolutely destroyed on a national stage by Disney in a fight of his own choosing. His plan to shut down their “wokeness” and take control of their park backfired spectacularly.

DeSantis got outmaneuvered so easily and completely by their lawyers it made him look like a clown.

Carrolade , in Why were Democrats afraid to hear a Palestinian?

My theory is that they didn’t want to give the Trump campaign any additional ammunition to run ads in swing states that claim the dems stand with hamas. Unfortunately, a modest number of Americans just don’t seem to realize the difference between hamas and innocent Palestinians, so this is a potentially damaging line of attack in places where the election is close.

Best I can figure anyway.

Jimmycakes , in ‘Dangerous and un-American’: new recording of JD Vance’s dark vision of women and immigration

Imagine selling your soul to the devil only to lose. Fucking bozo

squirrelwithnut , in X caught blocking links to NPR, claiming the news site may be 'unsafe'

Blocking access during an election year to a well respected and accurate news outlet that has never been known to be “unsafe” seems like election interference to me.

ravhall , in How ancient India shaped the west

If India were acknowledged to already have been a powerful, cosmopolitan and profoundly sophisticated civilisation, then what justification would there be for Victorian Britain’s civilising mission?

Control.

Fascinating article though. Good post.

SmokumJoe , in Trump says he will vote against Florida amendment enshrining abortion rights

Felons can’t vote

cheese_greater , in How ancient India shaped the west

I know I’ve been profoundly influenced by Ganges River

abcd , in Young girls are using anti-aging products they see on social media. The harm is more than skin deep

Poor girl. Nobody using that stuff looks young. People are manipulated so heavily that they are not able to see that it’s BS.
