But the only thing they have going for them is the electric side of things. If you put a combustion engine in a cybertruck it has nothing left.

haunte , in Trump Says He’s ‘Absolutely’ Down To Put ‘Unusual Character’ Elon Musk in His Cabinet: ‘We Have To Cherish Our Geniuses’

Ah yes, Elon Musk who overpaid for Twitter by billions of dollars and then shrunk yearly revenue from 5 billion to under 500 million in just a couple years. The company also lost 70% of its total value. That takes a special kind of genius.

ripcord ,
@ripcord@lemmy.world avatar

under 500 million

Do you have a source? We know it’s way down, but the only stuff I’d seen with real numbers was pure speculation. And none of them were as bad as dropping to 10%.

kautau ,

Looks like it’s not too far off if we extrapolate

archive.is/…/linda-yaccarino-x-ceo-elon-musk.html

Internal documents obtained by The New York Times show that, in the second quarter of this year, X earned $114 million in revenue in the United States, a 25 percent decline from the first quarter and a 53 percent decline from the previous year.

zabadoh , in Trying to outrun Ukrainian drones? Kursk traffic cams still issue speeding tickets.

That interesting bit about the M-38 highway being within Ukrainian FPV drone range.

And unsaid but that must include the rail line that runs alongside the highway.

Although that is likely from special ops teams for them to get that far.

With good directional antennas, the correct frequencies and analog signals and maybe last-mile AI/image recognition, 30-50 miles should be easy. You could even use a high altitude drone as a signal repeater for even more range with minimal latency.

For perspective: I could communicate with ham radio repeaters using a 5W transmitter and a basic whip antenna at about 150 miles, at 220/440mhz, because the repeater was in a high enough spot, on a distant mountain. Granted, that was only voice but it’s still a good representation of what kind of range you can get.

Digital signals at higher frequencies wouldn’t have much of a chance.

Edit: We are entering a period of high solar activity as well. While atmospheric bounce is usually reserved for other bands (usually 10m, or ~29mhz) it can absolutely be a thing with higher frequencies now.

WilderSeek , in Drivers Hate The Tech In Their Cars

Yeah, it’s why I’m considering Mazda for my next vehicle. Granted, my 2010 Civic needs to get closer to “death” (about 100K more miles or so).

haganbmj ,
@haganbmj@lemmy.ml avatar

Physical controls were a primary reason I went with a 2023 Mazda 3. I didn’t want a touch screen as the primary input device. The rotary dials for menus and volume have been great. I find the screen is just in a better position too; it doesn’t need to be within reach so it just blends into the dash better and is at an easier angle to see.

TIL

“Geofence warrants, also known as “reverse” search warrants, allow police to draw a shape on a map, such as over a crime scene, and demand that Google (or any other company that collects user locations) search its entire banks of location data for any phone or device that was in that area at a specific point in time.”

thecodeboss , in Tesla erases history, silently removes key climate manifesto written by Elon Musk

I hate Tesla as much as the next guy, but this article lacks any context and makes some assumptions about malicious intent. Are these the only articles removed, or did they purge a bunch of articles from two decades ago? Maybe these articles were stored in a legacy database and someone finally decided to clean it up, then the media is twisting it into “they’re changing history!”

(Disclaimer: I’m speculating heavily here given my lack of context, so these may very well have been removed on purpose due to their content)
