justgohomealready , in After cybersecurity lab wouldn’t use AV software, US accuses Georgia Tech of fraud

Most AV software is pretty useless and practically malware by itself.

itsgroundhogdayagain , in Big Pharma claims lower prices will mean giving up miracle medications. Ignore them.

Giving up miracle medications from them

davidagain , in Oklahoma revokes license of teacher who gave class QR code to Brooklyn library in book-ban protest

It’s so dystopian that teachers lose their jobs for encouraging children to read and that “free speech” advocates in state government are literally censoring books, the very thing that the first amendment is designed to stop governments doing.

yesman , in After cybersecurity lab wouldn’t use AV software, US accuses Georgia Tech of fraud

I agree with Dr. Antonakakis that endpoint AV is more trouble than it’s worth. I haven’t had AV on my computer since I was running WinXP. (I let Windows Defender run, though it has an annoying bug where 7zip executables are flagged)

My strategy is only valid because I’m the only user of my machine. I’d certainly install that stuff on any computer that I shared with someone else.

bradorsomething , in NASA says astronauts stuck in space will not return on Boeing capsule, will wait for SpaceX craft

NASA’s credibility will also not survive reentry.

MiltownClowns ,

Why would this be their downfall when they have controversies like making all the kids in America watch a teacher burn up in the atmosphere because middle management didn’t wanna replace o-rings? Or hiring nazis? Or naming their $10 billion telescope after a guy who presided over a gay purge?

What makes this one special?

jaschen , in Sip, return, repeat’: US city tackles throwaway cup culture with first-of-its-kind system

They have this in Taipei and it doesn’t work because the places is to return the cups are not convenient enough.

MTK , in Anti-LGBTQ+ hate preacher says racists go to Heaven and MLK is burning in Hell

Honestly, if all of the religious people are in heaven I think hell is the place for me.

Though the most likely place for will be rotting away in the ground with out any sort of awareness, because there is no afterlife

Naz ,

The final freedom is that of your own choosing:

The lack of, or a refusal for an afterlife is still a choice that will be respected in accordance with the wishes of the deceased. :3

MTK ,

That was a bit too cryptic for me.

What do you mean?

homesweethomeMrL , in NASA says astronauts stuck in space will not return on Boeing capsule, will wait for SpaceX craft

Boeing takes it in the nuts.

Not enough billions in taxpayer dollars I guess.

ShepherdPie ,

Thank goodness they’re too big to fail or they might actually be held accountable for building such shit equipment over the last decade+.

CeruleanRuin , in Elizabeth Warren Trolls Trump and Vance: ‘I Wouldn’t Trust Them to Move My Couch’

I snorted my beer at that line. It was extra hilarious coming from someone so typically buttoned up and above the fray like Senator Warren. Gods I do like that woman.

SeaJ , in Oklahoma revokes license of teacher who gave class QR code to Brooklyn library in book-ban protest

That’s fine. Oklahoma totally does not have a shortage of teachers or anything. /s

Walters said at Thursday’s meeting that Boismier violated rules that prohibit instruction on topics related to race and gender. He told reporters that she “broke the law.”

Oh? I didn’t realize providing a link to an online resource was considered teaching or had anything to do with race or gender. 🤔

MeaanBeaan , in Sip, return, repeat’: US city tackles throwaway cup culture with first-of-its-kind system

Headlines in one year: ”Amercan waterways flooded with reusable cups as Americans still throw away what should be reused."

geneva_convenience , in Anti-LGBTQ+ hate preacher says racists go to Heaven and MLK is burning in Hell

Love thy neighbor unless they are black - GOP Jesus.

AmidFuror , in Big Pharma claims lower prices will mean giving up miracle medications. Ignore them.

The idea that better drugs will be discovered by AI is laughable, though. It can help the search, but it can't predict the trial outcomes well. The system is too complex, and we don't have the data.
