keep voting in pro police candidates to lead the country and we end up with undertrained over funded police forces that self regulates

dhork , in Trump and his allies had a plan for how to hit Harris. Then he opened his mouth.

John Fredericks, a Trump-aligned conservative radio host, told POLITICO on Monday that the “personal attacks against Kamala Harris are really ill-advised and ill-placed, and have no upside in this campaign,” saying some Republicans’ recent DEI references were “stupid.”

“Certainly on the air, I’m not doing it,” Fredericks said.

Dude admits that it’s what they all are thinking, he’s just aware enough to know that it doesn’t sound good and won’t say that shit in public. Coward.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

It sounds like hes saying he’s not doing it on the air, but he still believes that nonsense.

mosiacmango ,

Notice he called the attacks “stupid,” not racist.

Hes saying it’s bad politics, not that he disagrees.

FlyingSquid , in Ford trying to patent system that reports speeding vehicles to police
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Ford could put all their R&D money into developing low-cost EVs, but they’d prefer to give the cops a handout.

ILikeBoobies ,

Maybe a natural consequence but better than that would be low profile vehicles

enbyecho , (edited )

Ford could put all their R&D money into developing low-cost EVs,

Thus making the EVs very expensive… just sayin’

Edit: I don’t know why you are downvoting. These are economic realities as they exist today. More R&D => greater costs => higher price. Fully Automated Luxury Communism is, unfortunately, not a likely reality in our lifetimes.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Then how do any low-cost vehicles ever get developed?

enbyecho ,

By minimizing costs, including R&D. Further, the lower the price the lower the profit and usually the lower the margin. Companies are not incentivitized to make less money.

This is pretty basic stuff…

FlyingSquid ,

Companies are not incentivitized to make less money.

If only it were physically possible to change that. Alas, the fifth law of thermodynamics says profit above all.

enbyecho ,

If only it were physically possible to change that. Alas, the fifth law of thermodynamics says profit above all.

It is possible to change it, of course, but every attempt thus far has ended in authoritarian political systems with even less opportunity for you to be housed, fed and well cared for, much less able to get things like affordable EVs.

I’m pretty convinced, sadly, that this is mainly because humans basically suck.

People have realized that a college education is largely a sham. It was different when everyone believed it was the key to success and wealth.

Anti_Iridium ,

college education is largely a sham

Care to explain?

some_guy ,

It an industry to extract profit more than it is about education. That’s why people have student loan debt decades after graduating. It’s not that you can’t get a good education and use it to further a career. It’s that it’s become a machine to create debt and trap people.

I dated a lawyer who griped that she naively got into law to do good and ended up working for a firm representing a major arms manufacturer because of student debt. Last I heard, she became a public defender, which is awesome, but not a choice a lot of people in that position can or will make.

Ensign_Crab , in 'She called for help and we failed': Sheriff asks forgiveness for Sonya Massey shooting

If there’s no actual consequences for the department, this wasn’t a failure. This was a success they don’t like getting bad PR for.

nifty , in Asked about cognitive ability, Trump brings up Harris' bar-exam results
@nifty@lemmy.world avatar

Trump shouldn’t be talking about someone else’s once failed bar exam, which she then passed and went on to edge out everyone else in her line of work. He’s has so many failed, bankrupt and fraudulent businesses.

Moreover, Trump failed as a president because of his inadequate response to Covid 19. Hundreds of thousands of people died who didn’t have to, and some are still reeling from repercussions of long covid. Americans deserve better.
