Gerudo , in Police recruit who lost both legs in ‘barbaric hazing ritual’ sues Denver, paramedics and officers

Not a single cop I have encountered could fucking endure what was listed here

jimmy90 , in There’s too much E. coli in the Seine for athletes to swim in it

do they have privatised water companies like we do in the UK?

Humanius ,
@Humanius@lemmy.world avatar

More like they have an ancient sewage system.

Basically, if the sewer system gets overwhelmed, for instance if there is a large amount of rainfall in a short time, then the sewage overflows directly into the Seine.
They have built infrastructure leading up to the Olympics to capture this overflow in storage tanks, but you cannot build infinitely large storage tanks so at some point it will still overflow.

And 2024 has been a very wet year thusfar, so…

kamenoko , in Amazon is responsible for hazardous items sold by third-party sellers, US agency says

Third party sellers really are the Golden Noose that will hang Amazon. They’re going to get sued into the stone age.

breadsmasher , in Musk Warns Against Nepotism: 'Kids Make You Happy But Don't Automatically Pass Your Business To Them'
@breadsmasher@lemmy.world avatar

Muski’s kids hate him, so obviously he assumes everyones kids hate their parents.

The warning is only because he personally doesn’t want to give his businesses to his kids.

Nepotism is obviously bad and you shouldn’t just arbitrarily pass it on.

Conservatives understand why nepotism is bad the second it fails to flatter them

tal ,

pass it on

Nepotism isn’t the same thing as bequesting something to someone else.

If you’re engaging in nepotism, you’re in a situation where people are supposed to be treated impartially but are not.

But that obligation doesn’t exist in terms of bequesting stuff that’s actually yours – you don’t have constraints on who to leave it to.

If Elon Musk left his 20% or whatever share of Tesla to his kid, that wouldn’t be nepotism.

But if he attempted to arrange that his kid be CEO of Tesla, that would.

Fedizen , in White House pushes Biden's Supreme Court proposal despite Republican objections.

“erode rule of law” says guy who wanted to overturn an election and whose party is currently advancing the first convicted felon nominee and backing “Project 2025” which proposes to absolutely dynamite “rule of law”

I’m sorry but Republiklans can’t use that line anymore.

Blackmist , in U.S. intelligence official: Russia will likely use propaganda to support Trump over Harris

I’d expect so.

I mean, we’d also interfere in Russian elections, if they weren’t a complete sham.

DandomRude , in Musk Warns Against Nepotism: 'Kids Make You Happy But Don't Automatically Pass Your Business To Them'
@DandomRude@lemmy.world avatar

It’s funny that Musk still massively supports a party for which nepotism seems to be one of the central goals. It starts with the positions Trump’s children and relatives hold - I’m pretty sure they have no qualifications apart from the fact that they are related to Trump. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Unrelated, Project 2029 policy work has just started.
