That homeless man wasn't running for president so his murder by cop was justified. You see he had 2 knifes on his person and was walking away from law enforcement against their orders so he deserved to die?
Sometimes when we know there will be a Trump argument with family Trumpers. My wife will yell out at some point of the conversation “He’s a racist!” they then spend a bunch of time loading up their talking points. Only for me to go “Honey, didn’t you mean rapist” and then she will chime in “Oh yeah, he raped his wife and that 13 year old girl… But he is also racist”.
Not all his fault, but he definitely shares much of the blame, largely due to a lack of leadership on the topic.
What the president can do in those situations is focus the discussion, he has the highest pulpit of any politician, he should’ve been using it to move the frame of discussion and shift party strategy to make court reform a stronger pillar of the party platform. When the president says something it gives other party members permission to hammer on an idea.
Instead he lingered on his dusty, worthless notions of bipartisanship and “reaching across the aisle” and wasted all his political capital defending a genocide.
That’s the thing that kills me, he makes these promises that he KNOWS he can’t get done, which leads to the whole “Well, Democrats never do anything!” argument.
What he NEEDS to say is “Here’s what I want to do, but I need your help throwing out the bastards in the House and Senate blocking it! Here are their names, let’s get them gone!”
That’s the real problem, but too many people here and elsewhere are unaware of the limitations on how the legislative process works. Anything like this is pretty much DOA and purely ceremonial. I’m happy for all of the positive things Biden has been able to get done in spite of such gridlock, but amendment level change in this country is just not at all possible right now.
Nope. And while the call for a Constitutional Convention to re-do the whole thing currently has more support (28 states out of 34 required), it’s generally coming from red states and would require 3/4 of the states to approve it. So that’s a non-starter too.
That’s interesting! I am curious to know what the scale was (what does it mean being fully straight?), if someone find the report and shares the link, that would be great. I looked for it but I could only find summaries.
Was this information collected also in previous surveys? Is there a trend we can observe?
Survey done by Durex. Durex was also that news site “ally of the year”. Interesting. Usually whenever I think of polls I feel like people who aren’t directly interested in the topic don’t take the poll.
Like if you said there was a polls about video games, I might take it. But a poll about guns id probably pass on.
But I welcome a more open culture, so would be neat if true.
The scale is likely the Kinsey scale. A 0-6 scale of sexuality. Zero is completely straight and six is completely gay.
Most people find themselves somewhere in the middle, even if they don’t admit it.
I’m somewhere in the range of 1–1.5
I’m firmly attracted to the opposite gender, but might make an exception if the person had a personality that was super compatible with my own. But it’s not something I’m going to seek out.
But do you think that in the survey they simply asked people where they “place” themselves on the scale, or they had questions that were used to infer the value? I am genuinely curious because I didn’t know this scale before, and I honestly have no idea what it means being a 1 vs a 2, even after reading the scale, it’s very abstract. So I am wondering what possible questions were in the survey. Unfortunately, I still did not find the full report.
Methodology would be nice to know, but I think the Kinsey scale is abstract for a reason. It’s a tool to allow a person to broaden their own understanding of themselves.
The parent took his children to a dangerous swimming area. He risked his life mitigating the consequences of his decision. Nature fucks up lots of families on vacation.
Once his children’s lives were at risk it doesn’t matter how it happened. A decent human parent’s reaction is automatic and faster than even adrenaline.
He did normal human things in both mistake and remedy. He’s no hero. But, he seems like a person that will be missed.
I’ve no children of my own. My parents sucked at loving me.
I once saw my friend jump off an 8’ cliff because he thought his young daughter was going to fall. He broke his leg. She didn’t fall. He said he’d do it again.
I feel like I started three decades behind everyone else learning about love. My wife, for example. Why would she tolerate my learning process? She never answers.
I’ve so much respect for the responsibility you’ve chosen.
With humility, schools don’t teach them logic and to reason for themselves, often not even colleges. The vast majority of teachers aren’t even allowed thematically enhance their syllabus and presentation. I think it’s very important you teach logic and reason yourself. Again, I’m not a parent, don’t know you, and am no fit judge anyhow. I’m speaking of what I perceive on the average.
This isn’t the first time I’ve heard such good sense coming from Spain, lately. I normally don’t hear much in the news headlines, but I hope I continue to. We need more vocal leaders like this challenging Western hypocrisy.
