baronvonj , in A Desperate Push to Save Florida’s Coral: Get It Out of the Sea
@baronvonj@lemmy.world avatar

So like a Zero Dawn approach? Preserving enough to repopulate later?

starelfsc2 , in Brain fog and other long COVID symptoms are the focus of new small treatment studies

I’ve had long COVID for a while now, and I wonder how many people are affected by it without realizing it, and just pass it off as exhaustion / trouble sleeping?

Odo , in Actor Paul Reubens, of PeeWee Herman fame, dead at 70

Jambi, I know exactly what to wish for. :( Really sad seeing your childhood pop culture figures dying.

Dekthro , in ‘I’m not wanted’: Florida universities hit by brain drain as academics flee

This is starting to look like a prequel to The Handmaids Tale.

TempleSquare ,

But it’s not.

This isn’t intentional. Florida’s politicians want an educated, wealthy population and to fight a meaningless culture war with Disney and young people (to keep Boomers happy).

They are too dumb to see they can’t have their cake and eat it too! This will be one expensive culture war.

Quality universities create quality employees and quality (tax paying) companies. By the end of the decade, and the region will stagnate and you’ll see a “new” Republican going full panic mode to fix the damage (while somehow blaming it on Democrats).

In short: There is NO plan. They’re just THAT shortsighted! (Everything you see can be, once again, explained by simple Boomer overindulgence)

geissi ,

Florida’s politicians want an educated […] population

Usually, populists want an uneducated population to increase their chances of getting re-elect

SeaJ , in Leprosy cases in central Florida account for nearly 20% of national cases. What to know

Not too surprising considering the number of armadillos there. I feel bad for those fuckers. We gave them leprosy.

eran_morad , in After $700 Million U.S. Bailout, Trucking Firm Is Shutting Down

lol fuck us amirite?

InternetUser2012 , in Musk threatens to sue researchers who documented the rise in hateful tweets

Fuck this guy. I’m embarrassed that there was a time that I thought he was alright. I hope he slips and falls on a steaming pile of dogshit.

fluke ,

Once upon a time he did seem to be okay (as far as billionaires can be).

Musk almost seemed philanthropic with his ventures of bringing forward the future with SpaceX and Tesla. Then almost suddenly he started to be vocal about certain politics and various bad practices came to light in how he behaved or treat his workforce.

In fact, it’s only until relatively recently it seems where the ultra wealthy seemed to be quite under the radar. Bezos, for example. Before and during his divorce you never really heard much about him. He seemed pretty likable in many ways. Then suddenly that changed, the media perception shifted and these people started getting lots of publicity and they were clearly unable to curate their image any longer.

pinkdrunkenelephants ,

He truly fell off the rails since covid.

Sarcastik ,

From experience, he was just as bad before COVID. He just had better people keeping him in the lines.

LittleBoBanny , in Actor Paul Reubens, of PeeWee Herman fame, dead at 70

Oh noooo! He was nice :(

CodeMonkeyDance , in Musk threatens to sue researchers who documented the rise in hateful tweets

If the evidence around changes in Twitter content might be harmful to the business model and alarming to advertisers?

If the shoe fits, then what?

bernieecclestoned , in Islamic State claims responsibility for Pakistan bombing, death toll rises to 45

So, Islamists killing other islamists?

Blamemeta ,

Yeah, same old. The religion of peace(that worships a warlord)(that still hasn’t had a reformation)(that is responsible for Al Qaeda, Taliban, and ISIS) is just being peaceful again.

NoneOfUrBusiness ,

Uh... I'll have to point out the Irish potsto famine (if you're Christian) and literally every communist regime out there (if you're atheist). But, more importantly, Islam never actually claims to be a religion of peace. Islam emphasizes fighting back against injustice (not saying that's what ISIS and crew are doing) and discourages turning the other cheek. So... Yeah, get your islamophobia right.

Tangent5280 ,

Islam never claims to be a religion of peace… Except for the legions of real life muslims that insist on that very exact same thing, so much so as to have it on banners during protests.

thisbenzingring , in Musk threatens to sue researchers who documented the rise in hateful tweets

Douche Nozzle Musk. I hope his life is only one huge failure after another.

golamas1999 , in After $700 Million U.S. Bailout, Trucking Firm Is Shutting Down

If companies are deemed to big to fail then they need to be nationalized.

Mamertine ,

Nationalizing a company opens a whole new can of worms.

Do you just let them operate at a loss? How can the others in the industry compete with a company that the taxpayers subsidize to operate at a loss?

IMO, The terms of a to “big to fail” bailout should be a slow liquidation or a Ma Bell style breakup.

cath ,

Agree in principle but there was little left to nationalize with yellow.

Their fleet was composed of mostly leases. It had been gutted and infected with MBA types doing dirty MBA tricks for years now.
