I looked at that source and most of thr US’s dings seem to he security. But note that the source says that basically no one gets arrested or killed by the government for being a journalist. Thus, I’m gonna say that it’s mostly our crazy populous, which with the climate after Trunp makes sense.
The original point that the US has strong protections (by the government) for the the press stands. We just can’t do anything aboutnpur citizens.
This is just one story about it. Many journalists under the last 3 administrations have had raids and seizures of their devices. It’s an extremely disturbing development, but it actually dates back to the Wilson administration. It’s not nearly as new or as rare as it sounds.
This is exactly why we need a free press and a non-corrupt government at all levels. It goes without saying, but an asshole sheriff shouldn’t be able to fuck with the nearby citizens without consequence.
A non-corrupt government, by nature, will never exist. That’s why the press needs to exist, until it also becomes corrupt. There seems to be no difference between the national press and the government in the US. I remember when I was a kid, I thought the press was part of the government. I kept seeing government officials going to work for the press and I just assumed it was one big organization. Now that I’ve gotten older and understand what’s going on, I realize that I understood more as a kid than I thought I did.
The only way the sheriff will be reigned in is by the local citizenry. If they ignore it or accept it, then there’s nothing to to stop him.

It is probably best addressed by strictly enforcing immigration laws in red states so we can see what happens. Red states rely on undocumented workers even more than blue states.

As I mentioned in another comment, we read both of these articles and they contain basically the same content, so we left this post up, and that is basically how these posts are being evaluated at this time (checking to make sure they aren’t misleading/reporting incorrect information).
Also as mentioned in my other comment, we do also understand that a lot of users do not want to click Fox News links and support them, so I do also encourage people to post links to other outlets in the comments so users can still read the article if they choose to do so.

This happened back in the 90s to my mom while working retail. Like 10 people came in and carried off the furniture they had in the store, because they knew the employees were instructed not to do anything.
Shit like this has been happening all over the US for decades, the media just decided it was the hot new topic to get more clicks recently. Even the Walgreens CEO who said theft was so awful they had to close a bunch of stores later admitted they "cried wolf".
Rich people love the idea that theft is out of control in the media because it gives them a talking point to keep us peasants in control. Starbucks was charged by the labor board for closing down unionizing stores under the guise of "safety concerns". Starbucks isn't the only place that has been pulling that shit.
And that's not to say I agree with 50 people bear spraying people and stealing luxury shit either. This isn't someone stealing food from the grocery store to feed their kids. It wasn't billionaires working in the store, it's people working a shitty retail job for shitty pay no doubt. But it is a topic being overblown for rich people's benefit.

What this shows is the continued fraying of the social contract that exists within any society. We aren’t taking care of people, so desperate people turn to acts of civil disobedience as a means of support. These clothes don’t have special identifying markers or characteristics. There’s no VIN number. They’re being sold second hand in order to provide for people. The only way a billionaire can exist is for millions of people to live in poverty. somebody can’t have a huge slice of the pie without taking pie away from others. Big corporate hates attention about their practices. I was retaliated against and then crippled for raising concerns about my workplace. Corporate protected the store manager and the HR manager over the rape of an underaged cashier. Conservative corporations like The Home Depot need to be boycotted and shut down.
