While it was super obvious that it was aimed at the upcoming abortion vote I’d think it would be universally unpopular to more or less remove the ability to get grassroots proposals on a ballot.
But its prob more like the cat is out of the bag on abortion rights. We’ve had a generation of the freedom to get abortion care and its gotta be hard to follow through banning that option for yourself no matter how much you run your mouth about opposing it.
These same clowns are going to cry and complain when these local stores shut down and leave the area without any jobs and no ability to do local shopping. This is how “food deserts” happen and how downtown areas become a ghost town.
Because there are some kooks on Lemmy that have this attitude that “well the company is just going to use insurance to pay for those items, so it’s barely even considered theft if you take from a big company”.
Mix that in with anti-work and anti-corporation sentiment and they could probably justify this shit.
And I’d totally agree with you as much as is realistic. Sure, trying to get some 20% off coupon or some clearance deal and sticking it to the man that way is one thing… literal theft is scummy.
Oh so you think these clowns draw the line at LV purses and ugly shoes?? Yeah ok. Same pieces of trash that do this, will also be willing to hit up some grocery store and steal all the baby formula or other high value items.
And when regular folks see this shit happening, it makes them want to visit all those areas less which creates a downward spiral for businesses and ultimately jobs as companies say “fuck this” and close up shop.
And that still doesn’t create food deserts. You don’t understand what a food desert is.
Food deserts are created when Walmart sets up shop and undercuts a dozen smaller groceries sending them out of business, meaning that anyone who wants groceries now needs a car to get across the giant government mandated parking lot.
Theft has nothing to do with it and your attempts to link the two are pathetic.
The article calls this a “complaint” rather than a “lawsuit” so I guess this is moot.
The couple seems to think people have the right to foster by default, and the regulation sets out conditions for when this right can be revoked.
I’m not sure of the actual law, but it seems to me that the right to foster should be granted on a case by case basis. Regulation should set the necessary requirements, but the department should have the final say on the sufficient requirements. And the department should be allowed to revoke an application for any reason or even no (stated) reason.
Like, you shouldn’t just have the right to foster by default.
Issue one wasn't about abortion, no matter how much people want it to be. Convoluting it with the November abortion rights issue will only give false confidence for the November vote. It's going to be a much tighter vote than what this was. Plenty of people across the political spectrum saw the long reaching implications passing issue one would have and voted it down for being a power grab.
As an Ohio resident it’s extremely frustrating that every national news outlet is trying to equate the issue 1 vote with abortion rights. Issue 1 would have fundamentally changed how citizens can interact with our constitution by making voter initiatives almost impossible to pass.
Yes, our farcical GOP government went on record saying this issue was in response to the November initiative about abortion rights, but this vote if passed would have made every other future voter initiative all but impossible to pass. It would have consolidated power into the hands of the minority. I’m so thankful people turned out to vote it down.
Issue 1 would have fundamentally changed how citizens can interact with our constitution by making voter initiatives almost impossible to pass.
Honestly - I think it was about both, but the November ballot initiative was absolutely the catalyst. Why else would lawmakers call an August election (something recently abolished), out of a seemingly new concern about ballot initiatives? A power grab was absolutely the goal, but there's a reason they tried for it now.
The kids grew up learning heists on gta online, I for one approve of this well coordinated maneuvering against the establishment that steals from its people every day.
