Gay couple from Toronto wins lawsuit in Italy after son's birth photo used in anti-surrogacy campaign

In 2014, BJ Barone and Frankie Nelson welcomed their son Milo with the help of a gestational surrogate.

They’d hired photographer Lindsay Foster who captured a striking and heart-warming image of the married couple holding their child for the very first time. That photograph went viral, but not long after it was used without consent by the Fratelli d’Italia.

So the right wing party was ordered to pay £20k total, (£10k to each father,) and hasn’t even paid yet because it’s still tied up in appeals court.

Sounds like they got to run a political ad campaign for only £20k, which is incredibly cheap once you consider all the parts that go into developing and running a campaign.

On the one hand, it’s great that the fathers have won. But on the other, it’s horrible that the penalty was so low. When you get into politics, £20k is a drop in the bucket.

ratz30 ,

Why? They live in Toronto

blindbunny ,

Cuz I’m high and some how thought they were in Italy 😅

Lexam ,

Yes, but have you ever been to Toronto?
