Dark_Blade , in Google is charging its employees $99 a night to stay at its on-campus hotel to help "transition to the hybrid workplace."
@Dark_Blade@lemmy.world avatar

What an absolute joke. Just let people work from home, you absolute dinosaurs.

TransplantedSconie ,

But then you can’t siphon off 99$ a night from them!

Come on, everyone! We gotta get those profits up!

    It’s not though. None of this back-to-office stuff is for real estate.

    Devdogg ,

    Uhh, yes it is? I mean, if you take a look at how much real estate San Francisco has just in its downtown area that should tell you something.

    penguin ,

    It has nothing to do with profits. It’s more profitable to have everyone work from home. Upper managers and executives simply prefer having everyone in the office because they like it. It’s their preference.

    Can we please think of the billionaires? What are they gonna do when their office buildings are empty? They need their property value! /s

    Chunk ,

    They want to force attrition. They over hired and need to reduce headcount but they don’t want the negative press of laying more people off.

    sigswitch ,

    Whilst it wouldn’t surprise me at all if this was the case, I’ve seen similar things at other companies, it’s a completely brain-dead strategy. The people who leave are the most qualified and capable employees who can easily find a job elsewhere and you’re just left with all the people who the company swept up in the boom period where they were hiring anyone with a pulse.

    CharlotteRain , in Elon Musk says X will fund legal bills if users treated unfairly by bosses

    He doesn’t pay his own legal bills though… He has reneged on paying for arbitration he forced hundreds of prior employees into after he didn’t pay them the severance he agreed to. reuters.com/…/twitter-stalling-hundreds-ex-worker…

    In short, he didn’t pay his employees, he didn’t pay his fees when they came to collect, and he won’t pay anyone’s legal bill either.

    ickplant ,
    @ickplant@lemmy.world avatar

    Hmm, sounds familiar. Isn’t there another guy who never pays anyone who works for him? Can’t quite remember his name, it’s on the tip of my tongue.

    MrMusAddict , in Hyundai and Kia recall nearly 92,000 vehicles and tell owners to park them outside due to fire risk

    Definitely ironic to me that there’s so much fear about EV batteries spontaneously combusting. And in the end, one of the largest recalls for spontaneous combustion is from an oil regulator in an ICEV 😅

    Patius ,

    You aren’t wrong, but at the same time, I’m not buying a Hyundai/Kia ev anytime soon either. They constantly have electrical problems with fire risks.

    And considering that they’ve buried stuff before (metal shavings in their ICE engines like 4 years ago), I could easily see an EV wiring problem they’re sitting on lest they destroy their standing in the EV market. Not that EV fires are actually much worse than gas car fires (a little harder to put out, but far less explodey (gas is also hard to put out, just not as hard.))

    CADmonkey ,

    I think gasoline fires are easier to put out because basically every fire station everywhere has the equipment/chemicals to deal with an oil/gas fire while not everywhere has the material and training to put out a large battery fire

    Yet.

    At one time, fire stations didn’t have the knowhow and equipment to put out gasoline fires, but now cars are everywhere and they do. Give it time and even the most podunk volunteer fire station will have stuff to deal with vehicle battery fires.

    Malfeasant ,

    The trouble is, batteries carry around their own oxidizers, so smothering doesn’t work as well…

    CADmonkey ,

    That, and most fire stations aren’t set up to put out metal fires.

    HurlingDurling ,

    Dont forget the fact you can drive off with a usb cable as a key.

    MeanEYE ,
    @MeanEYE@lemmy.world avatar

    Not ironic, but a responsible thing to do. The fact Tesla still plays stupid after all the reported issues and hasn’t issue any recalls speaks volumes. Car being recalled means they are taking the correct path. They have identified the issue, found the solution and are recalling cars to fix it.

    WhyYesZoidberg , in The cage match is back: Musk says Zuck fight will ‘be live-streamed on X’

    Let’s all hope for a fatal outcome. Then we all might stop hearing about at least one of these two. 🤞

    the_itsb , in The first pill to treat postpartum depression has been approved by US health officials

    Hurray! And then, if we can all stop pretending that pregnancy is magic and babies are awesome, maybe mothers will feel less monstrous when they’re struggling and more willing to seek help.

    Pregnancy and mothering an infant was the hardest and worst extended period in my life - I’ve had individual, shorter worse experiences, but that was the longest stretch of misery I’ve had. Meanwhile, people were telling me that I should savor every moment because it just gets harder! 🤦😂 I can laugh about that now, but jfc did it make me suicidal to think that!

    If you’re suffering through that period too and surrounded by people telling you how awesome it is - maybe that was their experience, but it’s totally okay if it isn’t yours, because it wasn’t mine either, but things got better. Once your child can communicate, that lessens the difficulty dramatically. And if you ever wanna bitch to a sympathetic mom who is open about the shitshow it all can be, I am here for it. ❤️

    BzzBiotch ,
    @BzzBiotch@lemmy.world avatar

    I’m sorry you had to go through that. Totally agree with you about the whole thing. I was a happy oblivious dad to be, right up to the point where we lost the little bean. Nobody told me that a LOT of pregnancies turn out to be a dud. If I knew beforehand, I would’ve been better prepared. Alas, I was not prepared and it broke my heart. There’s a whole other side to pregnancies. When can we finally be realistic about it? That would be so helpful for all new moms and dads.

    the_itsb ,

    Oh man, I can’t even imagine the devastation you felt. I am so sorry that happened, and I’m grateful that you can talk about it now.
