It clear most here didn’t listen to the steam. There is a lot of bullshit in that stream. But this barely meets the bar.
Trump was on the coal and oil train and Elon was basically trying to convince Trump that nuclear power is not as risky as people make it out to be. He even refuted Trump’s claim that the land in Fukushima and other nuclear disasters will be inhabitable for 1000+ years. His example may have been in poor taste, but not like the headlines make it out to be.
P.S. In 2024, is there already not enough material from these two dipshits that the news sites still have to take things out of context for clicks?
It sounds like he was suffering heat-related delirium and should have been prevented from leaving and trying to drive. Most people are unconfrontational though, and may not have even realized what they were seeing, symptomatically.
But as we keep having to remind people, it’s Death fucking Valley. Death is literally there in the name. If you don’t come prepared then ya pays yer nickel and takes yer chances.
The stores that lock up their products are also the stores that don’t enough employees to unlock the cases. The problem isn’t shoplifting the problem is under-staffing.
It’s hard to shoplift in a store that is fully staffed.
If something is locked behind plexiglass at a store, I simply won’t buy it. The few times I have because I was desperate for it and didn’t want/couldn’t wait for the online shipping, I always had to stand there in the aisle awkwardly waiting for an overworked employee who probably wasn’t getting paid enough to come unlock it for me. Feels bad and just makes me want to buy online every time rather than waste a trip to CVS or Home Depot or wherever they’re locking shit up now.

Of course it’s not just racism. You got to throw in sexism and other kinds of discrimination. This is not just targeting elderly white people, all this certainly it is targeting many of them. It’s also targeting younger white people, and men, for example.
The other thing we should never forget is that Washington is full of sleazy politicians. In 2016, Trump was campaigning as a reformer, and people were hoping that maybe he would magically address some of that corruption. Of course he didn’t, but he played on that hope, as reform candidates always do. And once people buy into him, it’s easier for them to stay bought in than it is to admit that they got played.
Yes, Trump’s shit talking was extremely entertaining during the Republican primary. He brought that up against one of the most despised establishment figures in Hilary Clinton and it was a recipe for victory.
When I went to the Grand Canyon, I was shocked how many people stand right on the edge of a 300 foot drop. In a lot of areas, there are no guard rails (nor should there be), but so many people are just fucking stupid.
I joked you could probably kill someone by startling them with an airhorn but honestly it might work.
I'm fairly certain that they lend to everyone, not just other tribes. The article makes it sound like the tribes out in the boonies need to do something to survive, and the US federal aid mandated in our treaties is hideously insufficient for their needs. Like, I think that what they're doing is bad because you shouldn't harm people, and you especially shouldn't harm people who are struggling. However, I can at least understand why they're doing it. I can also see that the society they're targeting shares responsibility for the situation. If the US had been continuously honoring the letter and spirit of the treaties we signed with the tribes, then the tribes would've have to resort to exploitative shit like casinos and predatory lending to make money. People will do whatever it takes to improve their situation, and it's a shame that the US has failed in this regard.
As an aside and for the sake of clarity, I think casinos are predatory and exploit people who don't understand their odds, but I'm not against their existence in general, or their existence on reservations. Native American folks can do what they want, it's their goddamned land, and the consenting adults who go to casinos have a responsibility to themselves. I only bring up casinos because of my perception of them and their presence on reservations.
(Also, fuck non-tribe people that use reservations as a way to skirt US regulations. I had no idea that non-tribe people used tribes as fronts for shitty lending operations. Again, kinda smells like something that could have been prevented with proper federal aid.)
