Because I don’t want my work to be able to literally watch and record every keystroke and mouse-click I make. Much less listen or watch me at home by activating the mic or camera. There’s no way I’m using that compromised device at home regularly.
I have a work laptop I only rarely use for just one very specific thing that I can only do on that laptop. I also have my personal laptop where I do everything including my work and if I want to sidebrowse stuff then I open up a different browser—all of which are privacy-hardened.
I just recently got a new laptop so now I have one that is even more locked down, secure, Linux-based, and I only use it for personal stuff.
Depending on where you work, your employer may be able to take that personal device you’re using for work in the event of a lawsuit against the company (where they need to retain anything that may be relevant to discovery), or in the event of a security incident (where they may need it for forensics).
I work in information security, and I practice strict isolation for that exact reason. Two laptops, two phones, because if anything ever happens they can and will take devices for analysis or evidence. If you are using an issued device, they’ll assign you a new one; if it’s a personal device you’ll get it back when they’re done with it, which could take years.
Edited to add this is dependent on your employment contract, but it’s better to be safe than sorry. Cover your camera and use your work computer.
That’s interesting and really important to know so I’m glad you’re sharing that but, without going into details about my work, I’m certain they won’t be able to request personal devices.
That’s great! Like I said, it’s dependent on your employment contract. But for people who aren’t as certain, separate work and personal devices as much as possible just to protect yourself.
Yeah, that makes total sense. I actually never knew why anyone used work-provided devices if they could theoretically do all or most of the same work on a safer personal device. Now I realize why that might be. Thanks!
One of the most downvoted posts I remember ever seeing was someone saying “But wasn’t he a psedophile and necrophile?” when Jimmy Saville died. That one turned around very quickly when all the stories came out in the media. Proof that sometimes you should stick to what you know is right.
The point of hostile architecture isn’t to solve homelessness, just to send them to the next block/town over (not saying you don’t understand that, just pointing it out).
I wonder if hostile architecture also kills people. Increasing exposure to cold and reducing opportunities to rest doesn’t seem good for your chances for survival. I guess that would solve homelessness, but in the worst most morbid way possible.
The most morbid way i heard about was in the news, when i lived in Brasil. Store owners used to pay police officers to get rid of the homeless disturbing their business in Rio de Janeiro.
Carried out at night, organized & stealthy, most victims were kids.
I don’t remember if someone really went to jail for this. That was in the 80s, like 20 years ago.
You’re absolutely right in your suspicion. Like so many “let’s punish the poor and vulnerable so they’ll stop being poor and vulnerable” policies that people think are just a “righteous” inconvenience, hostile architecture DOES kill people.
Yeah this meme is really stupid. I’m anti-Capitalism, but fascism doesn’t not do all that well in free markets. Nazis get deplatformed, demonetized. If you have money and influence, outing yourself as a Nazi is career suicide.
Fascism flourishes under a populist authoritarian leader, an obsession with national identity and the state, fear of an external boogieman, and a feeling that you’ve been oppressed but you’re about to get the reward you deserve.
Quite. Obviously Hitler was defeated by the combined military might of the allies.
But the important take-away is not, “violence is always the answer”, the important take-away is, “what socio-economic conditions in Germany lead to a fascist like Hitler rising up to dictator power”.
I see now where you are coming from but I never meant to say “violence is always the answer”. The comment above mine was about how incompatible capitalism and fascism are and if that were the case, Hitler would have been defeated by the market place of ideas
Moderation there is worse than a joke. I gave them a motherlode of screenshots, discord links, timestamps to Nazi content being posted on a single server, and their employees would simply pretend I didn’t give it to them and keep asking for discord links, as though they were unable to follow up on it otherwise.
To gross out some young people who find the body gross still: humans develop a mucous plug in the cervical canal during pregnancy. Losing the mucous plug (it will fall/leak out) usually means labor. You can dislodge it during rough sex so yeah lol. If you dislodge it before 37 weeks contact your obgyn just in case.
Edit: Oh and if you dislodge it after 37 weeks you might go into labor so hopefully at this point you know what to do in that event lol
Just to note: it can reform. So don’t panic if you start losing it too early. Preterm labor isn’t guaranteed. Especially if the reason for losing it is sex. It can also just start falling out a month before you go into labor, so don’t get too excited at 38 weeks if it starts happening. You might still have weeks to go.
Wait until they figure out they can buy the cake mixes, and it’s possible to make your own cakes, with as much extra stuff as you want. I once made a cake with embedded cookies, and a peanut butter cream cheese frosting. I regret nothing.
How much of a thing is using a cake mix? I bake often but just using simple ingredients that I buy separately, but cake mixes seem to be really popular, especially in the states. Is that true?
For people who arent super into baking they are a cheap, fun activity for an afternoon. Just add water and maybe some oil mix it with a spoon and bake it for the time stated on the box. No need to store or buy excess cocoa, flour, sugar, eggs and so on.
Thanks for your reply. I can’t say I relate to be honest, I would always want a good amount of all of those ingredients in stock. I can’t really see how mixing powder with water for 2 minutes constitutes an activity for a whole afternoon either.
Because there is still baking it and decorating it to be done… I dunno if you are just eating raw batter but like if you are I promise you try putting it in a hot box for some time and it is a whole different experience
I can, have and do bake cakes without the use of cake mixes. It’s not hard, and I normally have most of the ingredients on hand. But cake mixes are very popular, come in a wide variety of flavors/types, and, generally speaking, are pretty good. They’re also cheap. And they store well, and efficiently on the shelf or in a cabinet. So it’s just super convenient to have one on hand. It also takes like 30 seconds to make. Add water, oil, egg, mix.
How cool would sleeper cells of anti-capitalist assistants, cooks, personal trainers, etc be lol. These people should be living like Putin afraid everyone is planning to take them out. Take the joy from their lives if that’s all you can take.
The funniest thing about Andrew Tate is he’s so obviously overcompensating for being gay. I mean funny weird, it would be funny ha ha if he weren’t also a manipulative kidnapping rapist and grifter.
True but it might mean he isn’t gay. I would be more inclined to think he gets off on the approval and admiration from anyone vs wanting sexual or romantic relationships with other men.
He did a video of him and some dude playing Chess in his undies.
I play both sides of the fence, I have seen some hot femboy on femboy action, and I swear right hand to God that Andrew Tate video is the gayest thing I’ve ever seen. It’s gayer than 8 dudes blowing 9 dudes. I was ready to go back to women after seeing the THUMBNAIL of it. It’s that bad.
Even now I’m having Akira flashbacks of this video and the damage it’s done to me and god knows who else. Also, they can’t play chess. Neither can I but he definitely can’t.
You might think that it’s “experiments”, but “medical knowledge” is doing a lot of heavy lifting in that sentence too, the US was predominantly interested in Japanese bioweapons research
Most of these are, usually they are doing something like redoing the kitchen. This is a fairly nice kitchen, but I’ve seen rich people do stupider. Just classic attention seeking behavior.
