If you have an nvidia card you need to select the fallback (or something) entry in grub

I just wish OMW or something similar to Android was still in development. Anyone that knows anything about this?

Huzzah!

Wow thanks for posting. I wasn’t aware of this. I guess I’m not the only one who thinks morrowind is the best elder scrolls game.

Modded Skyrim is one of the last reasons I hang on to my dual boot. This will help cut the cord.

CassiniWarden , in Morrowind modern game engine OpenMW 0.48 is readying to release

Literally just installed Morrowind and OpenMW through lutris tonight. Looks like I’ll have this update to look forward to though!

luthis OP ,

While you’re at it, add Tamriel Rebuilt! There’s a huge amount of progress made and it basically doubles the playable map with quests, npcs, etc!

CassiniWarden ,

looks great, is there any easy way to get it working in Linux with OpenMW? modding morrowind can be a bit…finicky lol

luthis OP ,

It’s really basic, I’ve had it working on linux with openmw before.

It’s not like other mods, I think it’s just selecting an extra ESM file or something.

ProcurementCat ,

Tamriel Rebuilt has an installation guide for that which is OS-agnostic.

https://www.tamriel-rebuilt.org/content/how-install-tamriel-rebuilt

It's basically just:

  • Choose which optional patches you want (Plugin compatibility patches, make factions in Tamriel rebuilt part of the factions of Morrowind etc)
  • Copy the according .esm's into your Data Files folder
  • Register the .bsa files (contain all the assets)

I use ALVR on occasion for a quest 2: Tentacular, Jet Island, Gorn, Neos VR, SairentoVR run great after some tweaking. Have your rig plugged into a decent 5ghz router, I settled on 80hz refresh rate and bumped my packet size up to 8000B. <3

GeraltvonNVIDIA OP ,

Awesome News! Will look into it! Thank you!

Do we have a good shader option for openmw yet?

ElectroLisa , in VR Experiences With Oculus Headsets On Linux?
@ElectroLisa@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

For the Quest you can try ALVR as an AirLink alternative.

Keep in mind VR is a mess on Linux-supported headsets, I’m using the OG Vive and I wouldn’t recommend ditching Windows for VR.

GeraltvonNVIDIA OP ,

Understandable. But i like privacy and the whole thought behind FOSS. I am a Software developers myself and like to dig into code and See for myself how it works and play with it.

Since the release of Oculus Dev Kit 1 (de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oculus_Rift) 10 years passed. So i thought that could be a long enough time for an OpenSource-Community to drop a Kind-of-alternative to properitary Oculus Software.

And it seems i was thinking right. Thanks for mentioning ALVR! I searched for an alternative here alternativeto.net/software/oculus-experiences/ . But ALVR didnt pop up.

There are some attempts at OpenHMD and Monado. Unfortunately Oculus headsets like Rift S have their tracking handled by software, so the community have to write code for room tracking as well as controller tracking. As opposed to Quest and I think Vive/Index, where tracking is handled by hardware itself.

To my knowledge you can really only use oculus hardware with windows. Sorry chief.

Jadesayade , in issues installing nobara project

If I recall correctly I had to wait a good 90 seconds for anything to pop up after grub when I’ve installed nobara.

Have you tried waiting a good minute or two?

I’m kinda meh on nobara, the install is cool, performance is great but I’ve had some weird problems I never had on xubuntu. 🤷‍♂️

simple , in Laptop fan/heat struggles

Unfortunately it’s pretty normal for gaming laptops to get very hot. Check your internal temperatures though, if your CPU is over 90C on heavy load you may have to reapply thermal paste. Also clean the vents and fans when you get a chance.

The outside heat of the laptop doesn’t matter much, just make sure the CPU doesn’t hit 98C or so.

LunchEnjoyer OP ,
@LunchEnjoyer@lemmy.world avatar

From what I got yesterday it balanced around 70. But think I have to realise that it’s about time a I got a new laptop, something with Linux at its core.

Thanks anyways 👍

I only use Windows at work nowadays (I’m forced to), the games I play are all running smoothly enough on Arch until now
