Lately my PC has started crashing while it plays videos. It freezes completely, screen frozen and not responding to any input (keyboard, mouse), I mean I cannot change TTY (alt + ctrl + F(1-2-…)), and it cannot even respond to alt + PrntScr + REISUB. I have to force power off by holding down the power button....
A moment ago I unmounted my 1TB HDD with 400GB of content and I partition it into two different partitions, obviously keeping the space that was already occupied. I did because I don’t care if the content get corrupted, but after I did it everything is still working perfectly, when I thought everything would be corrupted....

So I jumped ship from Windows to Kubuntu last night, and It’s mostly been pretty good. However my general performance of the computer has been abysmal. I’m refurbishing an old PC to work as a home server for several stuff. I’m looking for a lightweight distribution to install in it, but with a decent package repository. A small image size will be appreciated, as I have slow bandwidth too.
Hi Linux- how important is it to install, say Debian, the version that is specifically made for your hardware? For example, if I have a Rock64 SBC, do I have to install Debian-rock64.img or can I just go with Debian-arm64.img? Will I lose performance/features if using generic arm64 image, or conversely, will I gain...
I’ve been struggling with getting a completely self-sustaining VNC server working on Ubuntu mate, and I’d like some advice from anyone who has been down this road before. My target platform is Ubuntu Mate, and it is a combination of VM’s and old laptops that may still have local sessions. I’ve landed on TigerVNC due to...
Is it possible to make money using your Linux knowledge if you’re not a developer? I know I can become a professional devops or sysadmin if I take some courses and master advanced networking. But is there something I can do now as an average, moderately experienced linux user?
