Has anyone installed and used Linux on Microsoft Surface Tab? Which Surface model is most suited and which Linux diastro performs the best?
I’ve dabbled with Linux over the years, first with Ubuntu in the early 2010s, then Elementary OS when that dropped, and a few years ago I really enjoyed how customizable the gui was with Xubuntu. I was able to make it look just like WIndows 2000 which was really cool....
Hey there. Just started my journey with lemmy and am not so much a fan of using it in a browser. Is there some linux app I might try? (I use arch btw.)
I have always been discovering new things about Linux distros while distro hopping. And when I get something I really like, I just copy the package name and make sure I install it in every distro I use in the future....
When using the Nix Package Manager on Debian 11, I have seen that it doesn’t automatically create .desktop files for GUI programs. This would have been fine if I was using nix to install one or two programs, but I was looking forward to use it a regular package manager. Does anyone know how to automate the process?
Upgraded Ubuntu to 22.04, where Firefox is Snap by default. Wasn’t going to fight it, especially since Canonical has made 3 blog posts talking about how much faster they made Firefox on Snap....
My mom has a business and mostly uses Windows and Mac OS X; I mentioned Linux because it could help save money....
Added support for the GBM API. This adds the new symlink nvidia-drm_gbm.so pointing to the file libnvidia-allocator.so.VERSION to implement a GBM backend driver usable with the GBM loader from the Mesa project version 21.2 and above, as well as the files libnvidia-egl-gbm.so.1.1.0 and 15_nvidia_gbm.json, which implement EGL...

How was it? What programs did you use?...
I currently use Manjaro as my daily driver, but it is bloatware to be honest. I want to switch to more minimalist distro so i ended up thinking on Void. So any advice? How is package manager? Community? Softwares? Documentation?

I’m just screwing around with the OS, but I have to say, I’m a bit perplexed....
It’s REALLY annoying that I gotta remember to switch from HDMI to Headphones. Is there a good “fix” to this that it will automate between the two?...
Some projects only give you .tar.gz, what am I supposed to do with them? Is this what people call building from source? Am I supposed to move it to /opt and extract it in Debian based distros? Does this also work on Arch based ones?
So I’m install Manjaro for a friend and it’s the first time he uses a Linux distribution, but he still needs a couple of Windows applications so I was wondering if anyone could recommend me an easy to use GUI to install .exes (not for video games, but for applications) so that he can install them without too much hassle. If...
I made switch back to Windows some time ago, but I notice I use open-source programs anyways and I do not enjoy modern video games which is why I think about switching back to Linux. Below is two issues holding me back from switching right away;...
Do you use it? Do you like it? Dislike it? How do you think it compares to the native package manager, or other cross-distro package managers like Snap or Flatpak?
