GolfNovemberUniform , in People doing the 30 days linux Challenge are having several problems because of Mint's old packages and technology. Why people still recommend it when there is Fedora and Opensuse with KDE and Gnome?
@GolfNovemberUniform@lemmy.ml avatar

Mint has user-friendly tools that are much better than Fedora’s lack of tools and openSUSE’s YAST for beginners.

tutus , in Usb keyboard unavailable during boot until all usb devices are initialised (solutions?)

I believe this is a hardware issue. Have you checked the USB options in the BIOS?

Lojcs OP ,

It works fine in bios and bootloader. This only happens during boot

tutus ,

Your title indicates otherwise so might be worth amending it.

Greek military uses Linux Mint, so yeah, it’s used in some places. I believe the Indian one does too.

possiblylinux127 ,

That is actually terrifying. How do they secure and lock it down?

lord_ryvan ,

It’s Ubuntu, so it’s secure.

It uses a supported LTS kernel, for better stability and security. Updates to a newer LTS kernel if the LTS it was using is no longer supported.

It’s very secure by default.

possiblylinux127 ,

It is in fact not that secure by default. It lacks a way to manage the desktop in mass. Not to mention is also lacks a firewall and selinux but those can be enabled. Also I wouldn’t trust the lock screen as it can be bypassed because it is Xorg.

Linux Mint is very good for general usage but I doubt its security in a military application. It is better than before which is good.

I really want phones like this to actually work and to succeed, but there are so many things these companies have to get just right – it’s a huge undertaking.

Releasing a phone that’s admittedly unfinished seems really risky. People are getting sick of unfinished products being tossed at them for full price, with the empty promises from the company that those missing features will be added in later.

@Magnolia_ I drive Fedora on laptop without any issues, and I reaally like Wayland and Fedora. X11 still better for normal people. Also UI and UX similar on Mint to Windows

laxe , in NVIDIA 555.58 Linux Graphics Driver Released with Explicit Sync on Wayland - 9to5Linux

The best part about the AI bubble is that Nvidia will finally get competition for gpus. Everyone wants to take a slice of their pie.

PoorPocketsMcNewHold , in Ubunchu! A manga about Linux that came out in 2009 [PDF link]

Similarly, there’s System Admin Girl★まんがでわかるLinux シス管系女子 Imported a physical edition just for the quirky factor of a Linux Admin manga, but it is pretty well made and does explain pretty well some bits (even if from the first episode, they explain how to do VNC if i remember, from a Ubuntu 16.04 LTS desktop, so fairly easy and old) but it still on-going !

Now that’s a find! I’ve been looking for something similar to read after うぶんちゅ!

Spectacle8011 ,
@Spectacle8011@lemmy.comfysnug.space avatar

Wow, this is actually fairly technical unlike うぶんちゅ. SSH and X11 forwarding in the first chapter. By chapter 4 we’re already exiting Vim.

PoorPocketsMcNewHold ,

Okay, so it wasn’t VNC, it was ssh stuff instead.

Spectacle8011 ,
@Spectacle8011@lemmy.comfysnug.space avatar

Eh, X11 Forwarding, VNC, SSH, XRDP, Waypipe whatever, it’s all very similar

malfisya , in Fedora 38 download?

While I don’t recommend using unmaintained version of an OS, you can find Fedora torrent files here. Might as well explore other distro if Fedora doesn’t work for your laptop.

krolden , in People doing the 30 days linux Challenge are having several problems because of Mint's old packages and technology. Why people still recommend it when there is Fedora and Opensuse with KDE and Gnome?

Idk I never really liked mint it seemed too ui polished without much back end polish.

For some reason its the goto for noobs maybe since it comes with a desktop already bundled with no extra config needed usually. But theres so many distros that have that now as well as up to date packages.

ch00f , in I just realized all my teachers use ubuntu

I remember having my mind blown in college when I saw a Mac Pro tower running Ubuntu in a lab.

555_1 ,

Why? It was an Intel Mac. They can even boot windows.

Toribor ,
@Toribor@corndog.social avatar

At one point I triple booted my laptop with Ubuntu, Windows 7 and OSX mostly just to prove I could. Weird times, a lot has changed since then.

jjlinux ,

I did the same on a PC I built like 10 years ago just because “why not?” 🤣

ch00f ,

Just seemed odd to pay your way into the Apple ecosystem just to wipe it and install Ubuntu

555_1 ,

Oh, that. Yes. I can’t fathom using Apple hardware outside of the Apple ecosystem unless that machine if EOL. But never for windows haha.

vzq ,

It’s really nice hardware. And for some segments of the market, it’s not even particularly expensive compared to alternatives of similar build working.

It has a fucking headphone jack?!? I might actually consider this as my next device.

Violet_McQuasional ,
@Violet_McQuasional@feddit.uk avatar

Just use a $5 USB-C to 3.5mm DAC?

SeekPie ,

I have the Samsung one right now, but the problem with it is that I can’t charge while listening to music and I ain’t gonna sacrifice sound quality with a 2 in 1 dongle.

These specs actually seem really solid for the price point, I’m glad to see decent alternative smartphones popping up that actually have some power.

What’s bugging me is the lack of information about the software. Apparently this is Android with a layer like Hallium to run a Debian userspace on top? And yet they don’t advertise that fact. It’s just a little off putting that this product seems to be aimed at Linux/general tech enthusiasts, yet the company seemed to miss the fact that those customers tend to really like knowing what they’re running under the hood.

fiercekitten ,

I thought $500 for only 6GB of ram is really disappointing.

anyone tried the snapcast support?

Templa , (edited ) in I bit confused on github fork

You pull the origin to your fork and solve the conflicts one by one, that’s usually how it goes.

If you want to keep your files how they are you can select “accept local changes” instead of “accept incoming changes”. That’s it.

Edit: If you need something more detailed let me know, I am assuming you are using an IDE like VSCode

Joseph_Boom OP ,

Thanks, I was able to do exactly what I wanted.
