Yesterday I tried to layout a bunch of program windows via xdotools moveto and resize. In theory they should have been all the same size, but they came out all different, and none had the targeted size. They all had space around them. What is involved in this process? Are there invisible borders, or stuff like that?
After commit 0bc3126c9cfa0b8c761483215c25382f831a7c6f in linux-firmware my system stopped booting (due to being unable to mount root fs). The bug isn’t occurring all the time even with this commit, but I’ve still successfully tracked it down to this specific commit. Now I’m not sure where I can report it, as I could find...
I’m running Ubuntu, and every once in a while, I boot up my PC and some app is missing that was there previously. Last night I shut down my computer, and this morning Firefox was missing. I lost all my browsing history, cookies, bookmarks, extensions, etc....
I’ve installed arch Linux and liked it, but lfs and Gentoo would be too time consuming compiling everything and not doing anything during and after install. Are there any distros like arch that don’t have me compiling everything?
Hi, I would like to ask if openSuse Tumbleweed is a good option for daily driving ang gaming. I’m not new to Linux and have tried Linux Mint and Ubuntu. I can also troubleshoot problems on my own if anything comes up. The graphics card I have is Nvidia if its any relevant.
Our recent blog post 2 introducing the upcoming Ubuntu Core Desktop explains what Ubuntu Core Desktop is and outlined many of the features and, more importantly, our modular approach using the capabilities of snap. This will be the first post in a series detailing the architecture of Ubuntu Core Desktop, explaining the...
I’m mostly interested in disabling the command to create a root shell ‘machinectl shell @root’. Attempting to ‘systemctl disable systemd-machined’ doesn’t work....
Hi all, Just wanted to know, do these all work the same? I have ext4, so no snapshots on timeshift, but I’m using it now to back up to an external SD card. I have heard good things about Pika and dejadup, and had some mishaps with timeshift. So, my question is, do they all do the same thing? Like, if I messed up something, can...
I’m keeping it broad by not specifying a distro. I’m just curious is this a real option for actual editing professionals? As far as I understand you can make it work by running under Wine, but I’m guessing this comes with significant drawbacks. I’m having trouble finding any information on both the current state of...
I am using a somewhat minimal installation of Arch-Linux on Nvidia-Hyprland. I am using the base install of Discord and I have PipeWire installed with Easy Effects running, along with some EQ settings for my BeyerDynamics DT 770 80ohm headphones. Every time I join a call in Discord, all the sounds are crackling until I leave. I...
I want to learn Linux and I read that installing Arch Linux is a great way to do this. But all guides I’ve found so far only guide you through the steps without much explanation of what it is you are doing during the installation....
I use zsh and have export MANPAGER=“nvim -Rc ‘set ft=man’ -” in my .zshrc. this used to work well but since a couple of weeks ago, whenever I run man (e.g. man man) I get many weird escape characters (e.g. [4mMAN[24m(1)). when running man and manually piping the output to another program (e.g. man man | nvim -Rc ‘set...
I am currently running EndeavourOS on my laptop, and I have all of the “printer” packages from installation installed. My company uses a Papercut NG server to manage printing, and I have an account in the system. However, there are no clear guides for installing the Papercut client on Linux, or printing to a managed printer...
I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction to change distos. I currently am running Xubuntu and am considering moving to Debian....
