Nothing like trying to tell your workers

Hey! We spent millions on this office space so you can work for pennies on the dollar! Come back so we can make more money you’ll never see a cent of or you are fired!

I once heard a fellow student complain loudly about a vandalized book and return to the pile at the front of class.

I quietly swapped the book I had received for that book at the end of class.

10/10. Book was full of highly entertaining vandalism. It greatly improved my class experience.

I have a friend that has tourrette’s we have drag him kicking and screaming to go out. Its a horrible affliction, and he has one of the mildest forms. Just random head ticks no outbursts. Also he won’t drink as the ticks become more frequent and extreme.

But we’ll be damned that he stays hold in his house. After we get him out he enjoys himself once his nerves calm down and he realizes nobody is staring when he ticks.

Iron_Lynx , in If only life was this simple

A horse doesn’t have to be worried about being happy if it ceases to think. Though it’ll also cease to be.

You see, this relies on the concept of “I think, therefore I am,” but if I led with that, I’d be putting Descartes before the horse.

PotatoesFall , in PLEAAASSEE PLEASE COME BACK TO THE OFFICE PLS

Sure, some people work better when surrounded by colleagues. Those people usually know that and will seek out on-site work, because it probably also makes them happier.

People who are more efficient at home probably also feel better at home and will seek out remote work.

If you want a much smaller hiring pool, more office upkeep costs and more transport emissions, sure make everyone come into the office… it’s so dumb to do this.

IMO if your sector lends itself to remote work and it’s not working for your company, you’re doing something else wrong.

Mark_is_on_his_droid ,

Yeah but they are also the ones who are gonna get promoted

Nalivai ,

A lot of my colleagues want for everyone to be in office. Their justification is “well, when everyone is in office, I can just walk to a person and ask them for help”. Which is why it’s a bit annoying to work there as a knowledgeable person, everyone always asking you to help them, constantly.
Guess where are all the knowledgeable people going.

PotatoesFall ,

As a more extroverted person and a people-pleaser, people wanting my help is the dream. Also great for negotiating wages.

But yeah I can see how it can be annoying too!

Nalivai ,

It’s nice sometimes, when you don’t have anything better to do. Sharing the knowledge is a genuine pleasure.
It’s infuriating if you need to focus on something.

Bingo, some of us actually do like to get out of the house and physically go to work. It seems like everybody except corporate shills think that the whole world wants to work from home, but it would honestly drive me crazy.

But as you said, people like me are going to seek out jobs where that’s the expectation at the outset. It’s shitty to pull a bait and switch and force everybody to come in when they are used to working from home.

Knightfox ,

Broski, my commute is typically 45 min by car each way. On the days I’m in the office I work 10+ days to avoid the traffic.

danielton ,
@danielton@lemmy.world avatar

Ok, but just because you prefer working from home and have a long commute doesn’t mean everybody else does.

I’ve actually been achieving this exact same thing when I try to sleep at night by smoking CBD before bed. Literally one hit and my mind is completely empty then I just fall asleep within minutes. Such a fucking life saver.

FartsWithAnAccent ,
@FartsWithAnAccent@lemmy.world avatar

CBD is great! I used CBD flower and a Dynavap to quit smoking cigarettes and I’ve been smoke free for years. Less stressed out too.

Meditating is another good way to quiet your mind, but that takes more time and practice. Still worth it though IMO. Same for exercise, even if you’re just going on walks or something.

donut4ever ,
@donut4ever@lemmy.world avatar

I exercise like there is no tomorrow. I lift like a maniac and walk between 2 - 5 miles in the park 4 days a week. Still have so much shit to think about at night. CBD is THE life saver. I have literally been struggling with sleep my whole life :(

OberonSwanson ,
@OberonSwanson@sh.itjust.works avatar

Never tried CBD, any suggestions where to start? Good night’s sleep feels like looking for the lost island of Atlantis these days.

There are two kinds that I know of. There is upper and downer. Upper is indica and downer is sativa. You need to try both and see what works best for you, as each one works different on different people. Downer made me stress a lot. I couldn’t continue with it. Upper relaxes me a lot and I don’t stress. Try both and see which is better for you.
