The two games I’ve played the most this past week are:
The Dark Pictures Anthology: The Devil In Me - It’s half off in the sale. The latest Dark Pictures Anthology narrative horror game. I love these games, currently working through a second playthrough and trying to save everyone this time. Also, this developer has several other titles if you like narrative horror. My faves are Man of Medan, The Quarry, and House of Ashes.
Halls of Torment - A Vampire Survivors derivative, and I think, a pretty good one. Has a dark, 80’s era fantasy aesthetic. There’s a lot of content here for an early access title too, and it’s only $4.
When I first started modding Skyrim back in 2012, I spent a solid week solely on water mods looking for something I liked. One day near the end of the week I was walking to work, and I had to cross a bridge. I looked out over the water and had a momentary thought about checking what water mod "they" were using.
January 4, 2012 -had been playing skyrim like I needed the overtime for just about 2 weeks. Off on a ski trip, and someone was seated nearby, but facing away. My first thought was how I could pickpocket them...
I had been making steady progress in Expedition Rome from the sale, but then the siren song of RimWorld pulled me back again. My melee moleperson cult is going strong!
I was big into New World when it first launched and started recognizing prime exp nodes for woodcutting (those multi trunk aspen looking things) in my community.
Not exactly a double take, but sometimes when I play a lot of Assassin’s Creed I start subconsciously looking for good handholds on buildings in real life.
After playing too much Ghost Recon, I once caught myself looking for a ditch I could jump into before “the guards” would come out of a farmhouse I was going to. Took me a full minute or two to shake off the feeling.
Eh, other developers are already basically making Zelda games minus the name, and you can play them without giving nintendo money. Unsighted, Death’s Door, and Crosscode are all great and take strong inspiration from Zelda, just to name a few.
Keep your eyes open for Mina the Hollower hopefully later this year, it wears its Link’s Awakening inspiration on its sleeve. Adorable mouse character and healthy dose of Castlevania mashup from the developers of Shovel Knight, I’ll be surprised if it turns out anything other than a slam dunk.
Right when I was playing Horizon Forbidden West, I saw a wrapped up chair that had tape in a blue cross on it, so it looked exactly like the things you can use your pullcaster on in the game. My first thought upon glancing at it was “Oh, I can use my pullcaster on that!”
…No. No, I can not. It’s real life; I do not have a pullcaster and there are no robot dinosaurs.
Just picked up Terraria and I’m loving it. I played Starbound a while back and read that it was more or less a spiritual successor to Terraria. Terraria has all the things I wanted to see from Starbound. The crafting system is so expansive. The difficulty is real though, I travelled through 2 biomes and hit something with large beetles and cave worms that chomped me to death. Zombies, floating eyes, and slimes were no problem. Same for the mobs in the desert, easy…but once I hit that 3rd biome I was in trouble, even with my metal armor.
