I keep seeing the same names popping up. I think it’s rather cute!

Though Lemmy and Mastodon are public sites, and their structures are open-source I guess? (I’m not a programmer/coder), can they really dodge the ability of AI s to collect/track any data everytime they search everywhere on Internet?

I just had that problem when you browse to a Mastodon post and ⭐️ it, or try to follow someone. The choreography is clumsy, and the kind of thing that will hinder mainstream adoption of ActivityPub....

As of right now, you can follow either Lemmy accounts directly or follow Lemmy communities from Mastodon relatively easily if you know what you are searching for. This is really cool because you can read (and participate to !) discussions without having tu use a Lemmy-specific app or account. The wonders of the fediverse !...

First off before we get into this I want to make clear that I’m not just throwing shade at the specific instance involved, and I’d also like to avoid focusing on the specific content of thread. It seems like just recently, everything broke. Posts from some other instances (Lemmy 0.19 or kbin) aren’t showing up here reliably anymore, and then sometimes posts from a few days ago will suddenly show up. kbin.social has a banner talking about unusual “problems” without going into detail....

Are there any technical/performance reasons why I couldn’t create an instance for myself and host a Plex server off of the same machine at home?...

Out of curiosity I went to exploding-heads.com and it looks like it’s not working anymore. Is there a new place they hang out now? Are they undercover on the regular servers or something? It’d be a little surprising to me if they all just gave up on being active on the Fediverse.

Are these two completely separate things? I’m new to hosting, I’m using akkoma, and want to understand what I’m doing. Any comments would be helpful, thank you! :)

Ive seen that pixelfed and peertube have the ability to add a licence to content. I think this would be great for everyone so we can get ahead of threads and have collective bargaining power when they inevitable put our content between ads....
