The Anti-Capitalist Chronicles by David Harvey (lemmy.ml)
The name speaks for itself. Definitely worth to read, interesting coverage of neoliberalism.

Recommended mystery novels?
I realised the other day that I’ve enjoyed lots of murder mystery games and shows, but I’ve hardly read any mystery novels. The only ones that come to mind are Altered Carbon and some of the Discworld Watch novels (all great!)....

It gives you book recommendations based on ✨vibes. ✨ You enter a search query like “funny scifi” and it returns a list of (hopefully!) good recommendations.
Do they also sometimes split a book into two in your country?
I hate it, they translate a book and decide that they want to sell it twice so they split it into two. They did it with every book of A Song of Ice and Fire and yesterday I’ve discovered they also did it with To Sleep in a Sea of Stars. I hate paying twice for one book.
Non-fiction books that are like the Bible to you? Books that you've checked to remember some facts a few times as opposed to reading them for pleasure.

Rebecca F Kuang: Goodreads is right to divide opinions, wrong to boil them down (www.theguardian.com)
Emotions run high on Goodreads. In fact, I tell every author navigating their first book launch to stay off it. They’re not going to listen to me, because who doesn’t want to know whether their manuscript – this precious thing they’ve toiled on in solitude for years – has found its readers? And because I’ve been...

How do you decide when to give up on a book?
I read The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle, and take enjoyed it. Read another book, then started reading Devil and the Dark Water by the same author. I got about 25% through and just decided to drop it for something else. I’m not an avid reader so i never know if I should stay committed or not.

What do you do when a great book has an absolutely uninteresting storyline?
I always say to myself that it is not worth to force books through. I do like 1/5th then I drop it if it did not catch me. Now I’m reading Pandora’s star which is a great scifi book and sandwitched inbetween the great scfi chapters there is this uninteresting detective storyline with zero scifi, people talking to eachother...
