How many of you understand that you can be on lemmy without bringing reddit here?

Every day I see another post on lemmy about how awful reddit is. As someone who migrated during the API fiasco, I don’t know why people want to bring the grifting here. Who cares of reddit banned you for promoting lemmy? Who cares about reddits constant enshittification? None of us are on reddit anymore for those exact reasons, stop bringing their simple-minded dipshittery here. We left to be done with reddit, not to watch the fire from our balconies.

SeedyOne ,

I don’t mind it at all. Let people vent and release from their old addiction. It’s happened for every migration going back to AOL.

If anything, WE can control what we see and if you’re in areas that constantly have reddit complaints maybe it’s time to curate that subscription list a bit better. Or use a Lemmy app that filters by keyword. You have the power.

It feels like a lot of people moved to lemmy just for the moral superiority.

People move to reddit for moral superiority, sir.

Over here it’s much more difficult to posture yourself due to lack of Karma systems and similar

Word. Its getting old fast. I just want to find Reddits replacement, a place for current and less accessable news and random funny nonsense. Not read post after post about how reddits failing or not failing. I dont care. I left.

I hope Lemmy becomes more like it, not its antagonist.

What I can’t figure out is why when viewing Lemmy by All -> New, there are bots (I think) creating many posts daily with links to back to reddit. It’s in many different instances I set these being created.

That’s because there are bots doing that, and they were designed specifically to bring parts of reddit to lemmy, without having to directly interface with reddit’s site, app, or issues

The key is you block the bots, usually. The lemmit bot only posts to the lemmit instance (afaik), so you can also just filter/block the instance itself in that case.

Once the bots are blocked, you usually end up with no reddit reposts because there aren’t that many of the bots, but they post relatively broadly.

What’s a reddit?

Nobody in my feed mentioned reddit until you did.

When filtering by “all”, I usually come across post from c/reddit or whatever it’s called because it is a popular community, but I don’t see any mentions of reddit in most other communities unless it’s relevant.

fruitycoder ,

My experience as well lol, but I also searched through communities and aggressively subscribed to anything remotely related to my interests so my feeds pretty good!

otter ,

I usually see those posts on Reddit/general fediverse specific communities. The fediverse means we can follow and talk about the topics we want, and ignore (or block) the stuff we don’t.

If there’s content that you don’t want to see somewhere, you could try and tighten up the rules there

Or just ignore it. All posts like these do is stir the pot and promote discontent while riling people up, just like on reddit.

I was never on Reddit, but I was a Twitter refugee who moved to Mastodon. In the beginning almost everything was about how terrible Elon Musk was and what dumb shit was going on over there. Now there’s a lot less. Perhaps the same thing will happen with Lemmy as well.

toasteecup ,

I was here initially because of the api bullshit, but now I just live here. Still hoping for the factorio community to grow a bit, but life’s pretty good and for the most part people are pretty polite. It’s a nice change of pace.

thezeesystem ,

The Factory must grow. Thanks for reminding me to join the community on here.

phorq ,

I just have no interest in reddit anymore, I always hated the UI and now that there aren’t any third party apps I don’t want to use it. If I see a technical answer in a search sure I’ll use it, but it’s whatever. If reddit wanted to charge on a per user basis to use the API I would have understood because companies need to make money and I wasn’t seeing ads, but they chose the stupidest approach to becoming more profitable.
