p03locke , to games in Kongregate, Digital Bros. cut jobs in a growing wave of video game industry layoffs

This has nothing to do with Control, so I’m not sure why it’s in the thumbnail.

Decoy321 , to android in New Elder Scrolls game surprise launches on Android - Polygon

Heads up, it’s still in early access. At the time I wrote this, it was already full.

Great news!

robbotlove , to startrek in Star Trek: Infinite could be the grand strategy game Trekkies need

does Romulus explode after a certain amount of turns?

buran ,
@buran@lemmy.world avatar

Its sun does, yes. The article specifically calls that out as a scripted event.

robbotlove ,

that’s pretty sweet. I only skimmed the article a bit

Rednax ,

Based on screenshots and the publisher, it is safe to say that they are using the Stellaris engine for this. Which does not really have traditional turns. Think RTS with lots of pauzing. The engine is also capable of exploding planets already.

robbotlove ,

it’s been ages since I’ve played an rts/strategy sim but having a star trek theme could get me to pull the trigger. long live the romulan star empire.

audaxdreik , to gaming in A South Park meme is now a real Hello Kitty game

If it weren’t for the Apple Arcade limitation, I’d seriously consider picking this up.

Looks adorable as hell and it lets me do the one thing Animal Crossing never did: play as an animal! 🐀

GiantBasil ,

Same, I was seriously considering it until i saw it was an apple exclusive thing.

emuspawn , to gaming in A South Park meme is now a real Hello Kitty game

I mean, Hello Kitty can go . I wouldn’t be suprised if there were some references in the game.

Treczoks , to til in TIL Shrek is based on a very weird book

I once saw the Shrek book in a bookstore and paged through it. I often see that movies that are based on books have little to do with the original story, but Shrek absolutely took the crown. But where this usually is a turn to the worse, with Shrek this was exactly the other way.

hash0772 , to technology in Discord wants to void your right to sue them in court — but you can opt out of the practice

I deleted my Discord account 2 days ago, and I’m very happy with that choice. Conversations / Any XMPP client is significantly better than Discord in terms of direct messaging and small groups for friends. Some of my friends haven’t switched to Conversations yet, but at that point it is their choice to not speak with me outside of work.

RaccoonBall ,

I’m still sticking with IRC.

You’ll all be back… Some day

It was all cool until we had to pick up Teamspeak to have voice chat while playing Minecraft in 2010…

Snapz , to piracy in Warner Bros. is now erasing games as it plans to delist Adult Swim-published titles

If you’re buying games these days, STOP buying non physical media

GerPrimus ,

I bought GTA 5 as a disc back then. You can’t even install it without the Rockstar Game Launcher. What do the discs do for me?

miss_brainfarts ,

I was going to say that the discs at least have a full game on them already, but can you even play that retail version without being forced through all the updates?

blind3rdeye ,

Better still, stick with DRM free games.

cyberpunk007 ,

While I kinda agree, you can still kill switch consoles and physical games with software easily. This is why I prefer buying off gog

Luella , to gaming in 5 years after shutting down, MOBA hero shooter Gigantic is coming back
@Luella@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

I’m crying I loved this game so much, even enough to pilfer through the convoluted mess it is to join a private server lobby to continue playing. Ahh I’m so excited!

thingsiplay , to gaming in 5 years after shutting down, MOBA hero shooter Gigantic is coming back

Gigantic looks something like Smite? Is that what I am getting here? I was hoping for an Overwatch / Team Fortress clone (unironically). I really need some more competition for this type of game.

Spaghetti_Hitchens , to technology in The FTC isn’t too happy with Microsoft’s Activision Blizzard layoffs

Title is weirdly worded. FTC is happy with Microsoft, just not too happy.

Kolanaki , to games in 14 great games to try if you loved Baldur’s Gate 3
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

If not for Planescape being on there I would have assumed they meant only more recent games. No Jade Empire. No KOTOR. Not even Neverwinter Nights or Fallout 1 & 2 or Icewind Dale. Let alone all the classic SSI Goldbox games or even Bard’s Tale (the original from the 80’s not that shit on Xbox).

wcSyndrome , to gaming in Capcom adds new DRM to old PC games, raising worries over mods

This article might be a bit late? Other news media saying the decision has been reversed already

taanegl ,

MSN Article to that effect.

BloodSlut , to games in Wayfinder, Warframe publisher Digital Extremes cuts workers, divests from Wayfinder

i cant believe steve would do this /s

Glide ,

Weird amount of nothing in this article. People from tangential teams focused on publishing other companies games have been laid off? There’s nothing to infer about Wayfinder or Warframe from that. The only real inference we can make is DE is more concerned with their internal games than publishing the games of others.

BloodSlut ,

its not even that surprising, most of what DE did publicly was give a shout about the game a couple times and that’s it. im sure they did more “normal” publisher stuff but theyve never really been intertwined in the game’s development so i can see some sense in this happening since the game has finally launched
