I’d say sandwiches, depending on what you want to put in them. A loaf of healthy (low sugar) bread isn’t going to be the cheapest option on the shelf, but if you’re dividing the cost by the number of sandwiches you can make out of it, it still ends up amounting to a large number of really inexpensive meals. I normally just add some meat, cheese, lettuce, and tomato, and it’s very nutritional and also delicious.
If you make the bread yourself (i.e. with a breadmaker) it’s dirt cheap. I buy flour and yeast in bulk and it costs bugger all per loaf.
You could maybe argue bread isn’t healthy because it’s technically a processed food (flour, carbs, etc.), but as others have pointed out moderation is key.
My reply to the the whole thread would be bread/sourdough. Healthy might be pushing it, but a whole grain, hard wheat (bread flour) at least has a bit more protein. Plus I usually add eithe a bit of olive oil to the dough (good fat) and brush the top with butter (extra taste).
I’d put steel cut oats in this boat too, with a bit of honey to sweeten.
I wonder if it tries to save a cookie then read it back? I don't really know how any of this works but that sounds like a way to detect it that's fairly infallible.
“Why is such an extensive and expensive effort being made to rescue five people who took a voluntary leisure excursion when thousands of migrants are constantly drowning in their effort to escape hardship, poverty, and war? While some of the Titan’s passengers paid $250,000 for their doomed trip, migrants are often penniless and are escaping to western countries to find work. Why aren’t nations working together to help them and save them from dying at sea?”
The world responds without prejudice when these kinds of out-of-the-ordinary accidents happen. Refugees is a completely separate issue and needs its own discussion. So does homelessness, Mental health, prescription drug abuse..... Saving lives doesn't have to be mutually exclusive.
I’d say if there were never refugees on a boat, and suddenly one appears and was in distress then tehre would be a lot of coverage (though even now there is a lot of coverage on the boats that capsize, and not much if any of the ones that arrive that are known).
If there were kids getting stuck in caves in Thailand every week, it would quickly become not-news-worthy.
Time usually helps. I’ve introduced a fair number of cats to each other through the years and while some didn’t become best buddies they would adapt in time.
Though we always fed them separately as we had a long lived fat cat who was on a perpetual diet. I think removing food stuff helped, but if there is always food out it’s usually not as big an issue. We couldn’t do that because the fat cat would just gorge then.
Thanks for the helpful reply. Cat number 2 became an outdoor-cat when the neighbors abandonned him. He hangs out at various houses on the block and we all take care of him a bit.
He’s comfortable going in my apartment for a peek, so maybe one day he’ll eventually want to move in.
The best way to solve that is post some links and get the ball rolling. Can’t get engagement without something to engage with. (I am guilty of not posting links myself lol)
Ditto. I wasn’t happy but I thought they’d find some sort of compromise since being reddit, the replacement for Digg 2.0, they’d surely understand they can’t just be complete twats about it. Then they started denigrating/banning their own mods… Wtf?
There are still a few niche subs I’ll have to keep using reddit for for now, but for everything else I’m happy to move on. I’ll also be cancelling my reddit monthly subscription, obviously.
Yeah, I ended up canceling my premium and I’m now using it to donate to lemmy / mastodon instances I’m migrating too. They (spez) has destroyed any (trust) chances of me going back too.
It really depends which billionaires. Believe it or not, some billionaires aren’t bad people (probably). Billionaires are just people with a ton of money and power at the end of the day, and we should judge them on their actions, not their bank balance, regardless of our suspicions of how they got so rich.
However, if we could stick (for example) the Sacklers, Kochs and Murdochs in a sub and send it to Challenger Deep with just enough oxygen to get there and plenty of ballast, we’d definitely be doing the world a favour. These scumbags have a huge amount of blood on their hands, and while it would be better to see them in jail, we never will, so fantasising about their horrible demise is the most we can really do.
Don’t carry water for people who would let you die to increase their mountain of gold a little. What you’ve described might be true of millionaires, even multi millionaires; but no one gets to a billion dollars without stepping on those below them in the pursuit of more money than one person could ever spend in their lifetime.
Being a billionaire is pathological, if the human race was a biological organism and one part of it started hoarding that many resources, we would call it cancer and cut it out.
I really hope Reddit dies a slow painful death, it’s already mostly bots talking with each other in the main subs. They got too greedy and think they’re so large their sh* don’t stink. Apologize for the crass, but man I just hope we get more major blunders and fuckups from spez&co
unlikely. sub rescues are hardly successful. Their sub could have imploded, fast way to die. Had a power failure wich would takes days to die either from a lack of o2 or possibly the cold. Or it reached the surface and they got to look out at thet ocean until about noon their time tomorrow unable to open the hatch and slowly die from a lack of air.
