I have a pretty high end gaming computer with glass sides and they put stickers on it and draw on it. I think it’s fun. They also put stickers all over the inside of my Jeep which remind me of them. They draw on some walls too and sometimes with me alongside since it’s nothing a future coat of paint and primer can’t fix.
Once I assumed that my kid could and would destroy everything that she touched, my outlook on life got a lot better. She’s actually not all that destructive at all, so most of the time I’m pleased with how well she’s doing, and when she does destroy something, I simply acknowledge that the truth I had previously assumed is being confirmed.
The entire fucking web worked with no ads for literally years. I do not feel bad, and won’t lament if companies can’t afford to pay people to cram even more JavaScript into web pages.

There were less than 200 websites in 1993 when the first paid ad was introduced shortly thereafter. There were over 100k websites by the end of 1995.

Tens of millions of people can and do pay. This isn’t about covering costs, this is about making line go up faster than last year, every year, no matter what.
80m premium subscribers, 2.7b monthly users… Do you really think that’s sustainable without having a secondary source of revenue? Because I don’t know that many businesses that survive from 3% paying customers…
That’s just for YouTube, but there are other websites that host content that wouldn’t be sustainable without ads and that would need to switch to a paid subscription format.

At $15 a month? Yeah totally. The vast majority of that 2.7 billion probably cost a few cents at most to offer service to. Very few people actually upload anything and streaming video is way cheaper than the various streaming services would have you believe. It’s expensive to get off the ground, sure, but it scales well.
It’s probably worth noting that this has a lot to do with VCs pumping in a seemingly unlimited amount of funding for services that aren’t profitable yet but has potential to be later. Hence why Twitter is still a thing despite running at a loss for almost its entire lifetime.
However it is a very small library. The idea is good but with under a hundred books it is not really an library. (at least it was that when they mentioned it in the news a few years ago)

I liked lockdown at first. I became severely chronically ill during lockdown, so I’m basically still in lockdown due to low mobility and it has gone from an introvert’s dream to a nightmare. I haven’t made any new close IRL connections in years and I can barely ever see my existing friends other than online. So far, the build quality… they saved on material. Keyboard and chassis are very cheap. I wish I could swap in my Thinkpad keyboard, would probably be possible.
It’s unfortunate to hear that; with the chassis being my biggest concern as I don’t think you would be able to find suitable replacement for that. As for the keyboard, perhaps an affordable and portable external keyboard might help you with that.
The keyboard is okaaay. I will post a review of the laptop soon. I am simply very spoiled by my Thinkpad.
I am not sure what material the chassis is, top around the keyboard is like metal, the screen thing too, meanwhile when opening it up you can see the metallic spray paint inside?
It is easy to open, not sure how easy to find spare parts but everything is very well removable. I think modern Thinkpad keyboards are the best ones ever, one could get a usb variant and wire somehow inside.
Or you would need an arduino board, a custom mini firmware and all, just to translate the different keyboards. But that was “random keyboard to usb”, and not “random keyboard to random keyboard”.

Honestly, I haven’t done a lot of business on Ebay. So, I don’t know a lot on how much cheaper you might get devices from there. Though, I wonder if it’s a lot cheaper than say this device.

Human ancestors had a varying diet that was regional and included bugs and wild plants and yes some animal protein. There are some estimates that they regularly consumed like 100g of fiber a day
You did not understand my comment very well. Beans and rice are great staple foods, I love them. A well rounded diet involves more than just beans and rice.
The point is that it’s all processed and premade, that’s why it costs so much. Make your own beef patties with ground beef and some seasonings, just bake a damn dessert for once and stop getting the fancy artisanal bread and just go with whole wheat.
Nothing about that requires eating rice and beans, you just don’t want to accept that some shit requires effort and when you outsource that you pay more.

I can rarely find a pound of ground beef for under $9 now unless buying in massive bulk. Even produce has gotten insanely expensive in the last few years. Sometimes the raw ingredients are so expensive it’s cheaper to buy the processed shit… Idk how anyone less fortunate can stay sane in the grocery store. Buying raw ingredients and cooking isn’t a cheat code to save money.

You aren’t looking hard enough. California has decent prices on lots of food because the farm is only hours away. There’s no $9 ground beef unless you get it from the farmer’s market. Also, just go to Berkeley Bowl.
I go to Berkely Bowl for niche ingredients I can’t find anywhere else, and the produce is often cheaper and better quality, but meat seems roughly the same and everything else in the store has at least a $1 markup. Also I’m not going to sit in an hour of traffic after work just to maybe save a buck on meat while immediately offsetting that saving in the gas it took to get there. It’s not always as easy as “just go to Berkely Bowl bro”.
Prices have objectively increased in the last three years that can’t be attributed to COL increases or inflation. The only thing left is profit.
The people that work in your grocery store need to afford to live in your high cost of living area, too. That means the stores have to pay them more which means they have to charge more. The same goes for the drivers that deliver the groceries to the store, the people that work in the warehouses of the suppliers, etc. It’s higher cost of living all the way down.
The same store was doing fine on half the price of groceries three years ago. How can the poor mega corporation grocery store ever survive? Doesn’t anyone ever think about the poor stock? And no, wages haven’t doubled since then
Worked in IT, target disk mode is a life saver when you have to recover data from a laptop with a broken screen/keyboard/bad ribbon cable and don’t want to take apart something held together by glue.
