I’ve always hated it and thought it was a stupid untuitive mechanic that didn’t map to anything in real life. It also looks equally stupid in multiplayer when you see player character models spasm their way up a ledge during a crouch jump. It’s an old school mechanic that I am glad is going out of fashion due to better vault controls.
like a simulation of pulling your legs up in real life.
You don’t pull your legs up in real life though, you use your hands to vault onto something. You can’t just swap stances in mid air without holding onto anything. Even if you were talking about box jumps, like the kinds you normally do at a gym, it still isn’t anything remotely like a crouch jump. Also anyone doing a box jump in an actual combat situation just looks goofy.
Any time a game explicitly has a tutorial for crouch jump, my immersion is completely broken. I am instantly reminded that it is a game.
Also, afaik, they both won silver and she broke the Olympic record before her compatriot Oh Ye Jin broke THAT record to take the gold.
Basically, they’re super cool in each their way, he’s just older and prefers regular glasses over the actually pretty standard for the sport headgear she sports.
Bonus info: that cute plush elephant she has hanging from her belt? That belongs to her 5yo daughter back in South Korea.
I like Graham Hancock. He’s got some neat theories. Are they truth? Dunno. Am I gonna hassle some academic and be a dick about something because of them? No.
Remember back before someone put together the orientation of the Pyramids at Giza and Orion’s Belt? It was pretty astonishing if one had lived with the Pyramids for a long time and saw them as just sort of misaligned for ? reasons. Some guy had to get razzed for twenty years to get that out there before the interwebs.
I never really cared until I emulated Super Mario RPG and literally could not make a specific jump in Booster’s Castle because of the frame skipping. I never have any trouble on an actual SNES there. Can’t ever make it emulated. :/
