Use handbrake command line. References available on the web. Ffmpeg would also work

IIII , to nostupidquestions in How do I extract audio from a video and turn it into an audio file?

With ffmpeg installed, you can extract just the audio. Here is a sample command usage:

ffmpeg -i video_file.mp4 audio_file.mp3

pineapple ,

You may want to pass through the audio so it’s not reencoded. The top answer on this stack overflow article has an example. stackoverflow.com/…/how-can-i-extract-audio-from-…

And a copy/paste:

ffmpeg -i input-video.avi -vn -acodec copy output-audio.aac

IIII ,

Certainly. ffprobe is also a good command to check what audio codec is in the video

IKnowYou OP ,

I’m trying to download it, but my Chromebook is making the file register as “read only.” How do I fix that?

tentphone ,

I don’t think ffmpeg works on Chromebooks.

This online converter worked for me.I don’t know if there’s a size limit; if there is you may have to trim the video first.

If you search “extract audio from video” online you can find other similar options.

SatyrSack ,

For those not comfortable with a terminal, I suggest VLC. I’m 95% sure it is just using ffmpeg under the hood as well.

fubo , to nostupidquestions in How do I extract audio from a video and turn it into an audio file?

If you’re comfortable with the command line, you could use a tool like ffmpeg to do this on your own computer. You might need to know the format of the video file and the format that you want to make the audio file, though.

That's too sweet!

I know that 'disordered' probably has a technical meaning here, but it's interesting to me that we as humans look at a structure that has ~100% efficiency and label it "disordered" because that structure is non-uniform.

…does Lemmy.world not have an upload max size? Cause this image is over 6 MB lol. I was suspicious when it was taking so long to load. Surely the limit needs to be set lower, cause the server seems to be having a hard time with the size of this.

Oh oops I didn’t realize I uploaded the full res version! Well, I guess we haven’t found the upload max size yet

nick ,

It’s configurable in pict-rs, I can’t remember what the default is though. I think I set it to 10MiB on my instance.

Ooooh this is exciting for a couple reasons. Hopefully they can use this research to improve artificial photosynthesis and maybe also photovoltaics.

Just imagine, instead of clunky solar panels on your roof, if you just had giant genetically modified ferns or ivy
