Iām proud of you!! Thatās huge. You should give yourself a well-deserved pat on the back. Verifiable progress and itās only up from here, keep it up :)
I would lack motivation too if I grew up with a mom like that. You need to eject her talk from your head. Every day you wake up a new person and whatever had happened earlier is nothing but memories. Begin again. Youāre free, and life is full of opportunities.
Honestly I am just going off of my preconceptions on this golang presumption. I tend to bet often that a rust or go based product is going to win out in most cases.
Iām expecting the answer is no, but would it be at all possible to transmit data via LCD? Probably no because of similar reasons as a light gun, right?
This is extremely interesting. So many products that Iāve never heard of and many of them were actually around for 6-12 years before being axed or coming up on death soon. A lot of these I had heard of and even used occasionally over the years and I didnāt realize were gone now.
At this point Iām just waiting for them to axe YouTube out of the blue and with maybe 2 days warning. If Google announces a project nowadays I just assume theyāll kill it off at some point.
Killed over 1 year ago, Cameos on Google allowed celebrities and other public figures to record video responses to the most common questions asked about them which would be shown to users in Google Search results. It was over 3 years old.
Imagine googling ādoes Bruno Mars is gay?ā and Bruno Mars himself shows up to tell you if he is or doesnāt
I honestly loved the concept and would probably have been a customer if I could afford it.
Contrary to your description, it was mostly celebrities doing custom greetings for fans, sometimes as themselves, sometimes in character and usually bought for people as a surprise gift.
Amongst others, there was Jim Rash wishing a Community fan a happy birthday in character as Dean Pelton and dozens if not hundreds of short to medium length videos of Dave Mustaine from Megadeth recording super wholesome and sincere messages for specific fans.
Can you honestly tell me that doesnāt sound great?
i think it was about this d list personality or a washed up actor who needs to top up and do his cameos to increase his net worth, and his manager reminding him to do the cameos.
I dont even know if what i remember is existing or just a figment of my imagination. Lol. Just goes to show how fucked up our memories have become due to our online activties.
Killed 15 days ago, YouTube Stories (originally YouTube Reels) allowed creators to post temporary videos that would expire after seven days. It was over 5 years old.
I remember getting a few of my friends to try G+ with me, then getting in and realizing we were the only ones there. Feels like Lemmy already has more people than that ghost town ever did.
Facebook and Google+ was always about friends family and local before any random and starnger interaction becomes relevant.
Reddit and Lemmy is all about strangers. Oftentimes you dont even want people to know you or care about that. So userbase is way easier to create without feeling as if it was too small.
Facebook started locally and slowly created circles until the entire world found their friends and families and joined themselves
HP Smart is complete ass lmao. I have an HP laser printer that prints well, but itās always a headache to start printing anything wirelessly from my laptop. Can only ever rely on the olā USB cable.
I am really confused, becuase HP Smart Scanner takes like 2-3 min to Scan a page, GNOMs build in Scanner takes 3-5 seconds with the same printer. Like how is your software this bad.
HP Smart does suck, although the cheap HP printer/scanner we picked up in 2020 for home schooling has been pretty reliable. A couple of the colour nozzles clogged after an extend period without use, but itās on the Ā£1 a month cartridge rental so I just kept re-running the cleaning cycle until it worked again.
I was so upset about it that I almost de-Googled. And I was all-in on the Google ecosystem. In the end I begrudgingly continued on because I didnāt have the time or energy to find replacements for everything.
But yes, Iām still angry over it. I like NewsBlur, it does everything I need, but I still miss Google Reader, and I would go back to it in a second.
Gotta be Google Play Music Iām still bitter about. YouTube music doesnāt hold a candle to it, and Iāve never quite been as happy with Spotify or Apple Music. Getting YT Premium with a good music service was great too, but they shot themselves in the foot.
And thereās was justā¦ no reason for it. They even delayed its death when they realized how crap YT Music was, and then later justā¦ decided to do it anyways.
Google made a huge mistake shutting down Google+. If they had built it out to integrate with Youtube, where people could have a space to Tweet, have a Main Page feed like Facebook, and post videos all in the same platform, they would have dominated the market.
I still have a hard time believing that no-one has created a platform that encompasses all of those things. Meta is doing it piece-meal but itās all disorganized. It should be one unified platform.
Thatās why I hope some developers start working on a way to integrate Lemmy and Mastodon and likeā¦ PeerTube together into a single frontend. Iād love to be able to manage my Mastodon posts and BS on Lemmy in the same website.
Why is it absurd? The best way to reach people is on the platforms they use. People are not going to install some government app or use a special website to see those kinds of messages.
It is absurd in the way that the previous NL-ALERT I received had a link to Twitter for more information that I couldnāt open, since I donāt have a Twitter account. When Musk decides to do something crazy with his platform it could have a direct impact on the communication between the government and the people. It is safer to use a self hosted platform so you can always reach the masses when it is needed.
i can get alerts on my phone from the government. plus you could have people sign up for text messages rather then follow om Twitter. I get that Twitter wasca super fast way to get announcements out to the public and it would go to the people that actually care. But itvis bad for vital communication line to be own by a third party that canāt make money since what happens when it shuts down
I donāt want my government spamming my inbox with updates. I donāt know how active government Twitter accounts tend to be but I suspect there are plenty of things that are significant enough to announce via some platform but not significant enough that they merit an email.
RSS would be great and I fully support governments using it. But sadly in this day and age it would reach significantly fewer people than Twitter.
Because it is a platform governed by a 3rd party entity in a foreign country. That platform can ban and censor citizen, based on foreign cultural values and arbitrary rules, limiting citizen access to their own goverments information.
The platform governments choose to use for public information and debate should always provide open and public access to that information.
A government should not require its citizen to create a Twitter account, and thereby requiring them to provide their personal information to a foreign country, just to be part of the public debate and to get public information. That is just plainly wrong.
Thatās nice but all of that is irrelevant. You can view tweets without making an account.
Also, not one government solely relies on Twitter to disperse information, it is just one additional channel. They also use their own websites, apps, TV and radio.
There is some kind of account-wall on Twitter. I have been hit with a popup asking me to sign up or log in plenty of times, in order to be allowed to read the tweets I was trying to read.
So twitter is not allowing everyone to read the tweets without an account.
Governments have been PAYING to inform the public via commercial services forā¦ ever? And requiring citizens to do the same. Have you ever seen a public notice in a newspaper? At least posting on Twitter is free (for now).
