What the fuck does that even mean lol. I didn’t think dark mode even did that?

new_guy ,

It kinda does if your screen is OLED. The black pixels are actually turned off on OLED screens.

On other type of screens - like LCD - the backlight is always turned on

Knusper ,

Yep, but then we are talking about actually black backgrounds, which is normally a big no-no in UI design.

Viper_NZ ,

A black pixel in an LCD is in the ‘on’ position with voltage applied. So dark mode uses more power on an LCD, though the number is small.

WhatASave ,

True, but I’ve heard it’s still negligible and almost every dark mode is dark, not pure black.

dukeGR4 ,

With OLED, yeah it is indeed more sustainable cause less energy usage but damn it’s a stupid thing to say and remind from their end. It’s already implied

How’s about a website that generates money, like Facebook or YouTube? Can you own that?

What about products that designed to create ongoing streams of revenue, like a patent on an invention or a piece of art you can collect royalties from every time it is displayed? The USSR famously took ownership of Tetris away from its creator.

Under communism, how does the stock market work? I’m not a big fan of it, but it’s pretty hard to imagine getting rid of it now that the global economy is pretty much dependent on it.

Today, five countries exist that can be said to be communist: China, Russia, Vietnam, Laos, and Cuba. Of those five, none have achieved actual communism, and several have inarguably embraced capitalism to a great extent. All of them have essentially authoritarian governments. Which is unsurprising, since a dictatorship of the proletariat is central to the Marxist vision of how to create a communist society, and involves the creation of a single-party transitional government that forcibly suppresses all its critics and rivals.

I’m not big into capitalism and I think we should implement plenty of socialist reforms, but I will never understand why some people on the Left—or anyone for that matter—think communism is what we should be striving for.

trot ,

“Today, five countries exist that can be said to be communist: China, Russia”

Tell me you have no idea what you are talking about without directly telling me you have no idea what you are talking about. In what way can today’s Russia “be said to be communist”, and how does its current, very explicitly anti-communist government, contribute to the point you are making?

I have some reservations about pirating movies because of the impact it can have on people who work on the movies.

I would give absolutely zero fucks about pirating AI generated content, no matter how many “prompt engineers” or whatever they had working on it.

krolden ,
@krolden@lemmy.ml avatar

Just send everyone in the credits a dollar. Its way more than they would make from your purchase royalties.

gamer ,

It’s not just royalties, it’s the success of the industry in general. If those evil studios go out of business, it will eliminate a lot of jobs, if a movie flops, there’s no sequel, etc. The fact that the creatives make much less than the suits is lame, but it doesn’t change that basic framework.

But if the studios are already eliminating those jobs, then them going under is only a problem for shareholders.

Once the wet bulb temperature gets too high then conditions become lethal no matter how much you drink. This is happening more often.

Yeah I know. Can’t regulate sweating at that point and the body will start to frog boil. Hydrate was just a term drill sergeants would tell us when it was hot as hell. Someone military probably understood the reference.

I did, I understood the reference! Hooyah PT!

What is audiobookshelf? How does it work with readarr?

Plex for audiobooks. It’s amazing. There are android and iOS apps too. It will keep your progress across multiple devices just like audible.

Fingerthief OP ,
@Fingerthief@lemmy.world avatar

It’s a great audio library system, I use PodGrab to subscribe to podcasts and download them and AudioBookshelf for playback and organization etc…

NonDollarCurrency ,

Hey I do this exact thing as well. Would highly recommend if you like self hosting podcasts to listen to.

zerodawn ,

I use to do the exact same thing until recently when i found that Audiobookshelf can auto download podcast like podgrab does but in a smarter way. And in my opinion the default naming convention on audiobookshelf is better too. Ditched podgrab and haven’t looked back.

Taking away the shade the tree leaves would’ve provided.

Girru00 ,

Wouldnt want people to have any protection from the sun when its hot out

solstice ,

It’s a good strategy and works indoors too. For example, I know a bunch of financial auditors who basically go into businesses and annoy the shit out of them for a few weeks making sure there’s no fraud going on. They say it’s extremely common for them to get stuck in uncomfortable spare offices, it’ll be small and cramped, too hot or too cold, they work late into nights and weekends and the client will intentionally make sure ac isn’t on late, things like that. Also works at home for getting rid of company that overstayed their welcome.

See, my crippled ass is going to squeeze through anyway. Even if that means the metal clasps on my shoulder bag grind against the vehicle, or even if the attachment point for the strap on my cane happens to dig in if I happen to stumble because of the tight space.

Will that result in dents and scrapes? Absolutely. Do I care? Absolutely not.

Tb0n3 ,

It sounds like you care a lot.

neumast ,

Care about how this a-hole blocks the sidewalk? Yes!

Care about accidential scratches or dents when walking around that pickup? No!
