Other than google/wikipedia, what are some other resources to learn more in depth as to what the feeiverse is? If there are any, that is. Unless its just “heres the name, go learn”

Joined yesterday day. It’s a bit of a learning curve and requires some time to rebuild my “front page”. I’m enjoying it so far, haven’t stepped foot on Reddit once since then besides my muscle memory launching bacon reader a few times.
I am too. I downloaded an app (Jerboa) made an account, and then just started searching for some of the interest subreddits I used and subscribed to them. Found an aww, tech, movie and tv shows, reddit migration, gunpla, and others so I can customize my “front page”.
I took the learn by doing approach. I didn’t really look at any tutorials or how to guides, just started with the app messed around. Did some searches for hobbies and interest. Linked an account and then started subscribing. I think I got the jist, but still can’t see the full scope and picture of how it works but not bad for day 1 I think. Good luck on your journey!!
Running Connect for Lemmy here on Android. It seems nice and minimalist. I was a little dissuaded from trying Jerboa with some of the negative reviews.
I like the chrome PWA, jerboa, and wefwef. Thunder is decent. Liftoff looks great but doesn’t allow for all instances to join yet ( kmown bug). Haven’t liked connect as much but trying to give them all a fair try. What I am really looking forward to is Sync.
Thanks! I mostly lurked on reddit for many years (as a Digg refugee), and I want to try and get out of that rut and actually contribute some content here. Wish me luck!
Yeah, I was there probably a decade mainly lurking. Decided to come over here after the Sync app shut down. I feel like I want to contribute more here too! Seems like an exciting time to have come aboard.
I’m sorry to hear that losing Boost has been hard! I agree that it’s more like a vacation, or possibly even an upgrade. Think bout the fact that reddit wasn’t adding features for the benefit of users, it was focused on padding its bottom-line. This meant that features on clients like Boost were often limited. For example, Boost didn’t have reddit chat or gifs in comments, probably because the API didn’t allow for it.
On the other hand, lemmy and fediverse users are driven entirely by the goal of making amazing things for the community. Clients and apps are first-class citizens, so features will roll out to all of them pretty steadily. I expect Boost for lemmy will be way better than Boost for reddit ever was.
I wonder if the declining user count is due to the influx of people trying to get on board, but with such a surge systems fell over. It’s good to see server count/comments and posts on the increase… that shows to me that people are starting to come. It’s the wild frontier days in terms of the mass migration of a lot of people… there will be a learning curve for people to understand, change habits, get used to the “new life on mars” so to speak… but I feel that it will happen. It’s really refreshing to be part of the budding beginnings of what hopefully becomes a new front page of the internet.
It’s impressive from my bystander perspective of how quickly people mobilise, and communities can work together to get something that feels similar to what life was like before the mass migration. It is also refreshing for my brain from the doom and despair of the world to be part of a small group (mainly by lurking) and watching things forge ahead.
I believe most of the 2million users are bots, since many instances didn’t have much bot protection for signups. This is why active user count is probably a much more reliable metric.
