“cum” is Latin for “with” and is sometimes used in English to show that something is two things at once, so “minstrel-cum-clown” would be someone who is both a minstrel and a clown
Huh, that seems plausible, but it’s usually between other Latin words. I can’t think of any where “cum” would be interjected between English words. Are there other examples, is this a thing?
I wouldn't consider it odd to see it between two English words. 'Seminar-cum-workshop' is one example I found with plenty of search results.
It's also used (with the same meaning) in English place names e.g. the Beegees are from Chorlton-cum-Hardy.
So jealous you had good weather! I was just there at the tail end of May, and we had constant rain/snow/hail. The locals said it was really unseasonably cold weather.
Norway can be very rainy. I was in Bergen some years ago and the locals asked why I even came there as it has rained every day for like a month or something.
This year really was horrible up until mid June I would say. So much that even the farmers can see it in their first harvesting season, it’s way worse than the last year’s because most of the fields were under water. Sorry you got the wrong end of it. But even if the forecast ist supposed to be good it can all change really quickly up here. Still amazing to visit :)
Oh definitely still glad we visited, the whole area was still breathtakingly beautiful. I really want to come back one summer and spend more time hiking, hopefully with more sun!
That’s pretty impressive. I hope it continues to grow. It would be nice if there was some way to mirror the content that gets posted on Reddit specifically the highly popular posts in news subreddits but otherwise I like it a lot.
Sometimes I think about things like this when it comes to cheese and fermented stuff. Like, who was the first guy to work out that you can get rotten food and either get high off it or get tasty stuff out of them?
I bought a refurbished pixel 5 about 3 months ago! It’s been working great so far, basically new condition when i got it. The battery is better than my last phone (Xiaomi mi 9t) in it’s last days, but i have no idea how it compares to when it was new. Pixels seem to have great after market OS support, so I wouldn’t worry about it not being supported in the near future. I installed Lineage OS right away and it works like a charm. Let me know if you have any questions!
Really interested in how the 90hz display holds up. I’m not playing games or anything so I don’t care about the performance in GPU heavy tasks, however I expect for the system to run flawlessly 95%+ of the time, including some 3rd party apps like Telegram YouTube (primarily ReVanced).
I’m used to 60Hz screens, and i don’t really notice the higher refresh rate. It’s maybe a bit smoother when scrolling, and I think it’s pretty consistent between different apps. I might make a little experiment where i turn it down to 60 for a day and see if i notice anything!

I literally just bought a monitor just like this. It just arrived. It’s still in the packaging.
I had my Linux install die on me (due to my own stupidity, but I recovered it), and I needed to move my monitor from my gaming PC into the closet where my server lives. This isn’t the first time I’ve had to do something like that, and I was over it. So mini monitor for $40 it is!
Congrats on the milestone! @MicroWave would it be possible (if you haven’t done so already) to make one for Lemmy usage across all instances (or at least the major ones)?

Great suggestion. Sure, I can do that. I think I’ll aggregate the top 10 non-bot instances.
