True story, every time I see a golden retriever when driving (by myself), I say “WHAT A GOOD BOY” out loud habitually. Only goldens, and sometimes labs if they look extra behaved.
Maybe that’s cringe to some, but I adore these dogs.
I’m expecting the answer is no, but would it be at all possible to transmit data via LCD? Probably no because of similar reasons as a light gun, right?
But it started as one word, it wasn’t made into one word later afaik. The words also aren’t interchangeable. The thing being talked about is fundamentally nip, not a cat. In a saying like tick tock, the tick part and tock part are interchangeable. In “big bad” they’re both referring to the wolf so again they’re interchangeable. In this case the “nip” part is the same as the wolf part in “big bad wolf”.
If I were to say wolf nip, you’d think of a version of catnip for wolves. If I were to say nip wolf, you’d think of of a wolf that bites people.
I think you misunderstand what I mean. It comes from 2 separate words being put together, but as far as I’m aware it’s always been a compound word, as in it’s always been called catnip, not cat nip.
How is maintaining a community compared to an instance? It would be neat to make one, but what keeps me from making one is having to moderate it or maintain it.
Go for it man! I had never moderated over on Reddit but I wanted to contribute on Lemmy so I started up some communities. Everyone has behaved themselves so far and people have been pretty positive about things. Eventually it might get overwhelming (if Lemmy really takes off), but there’s always the option of adding more mods to help.
That has been his goal since he got forced to actually buy it rather than just boosting the stock so he could make a profit, which like most of his antics was really the only goal (publicity and money)
Not having to break the contract with his investors who are some very powerful people. Better to say “the libs killed it because they don’t like me.” And then get bankruptcy protection.
I do quite a bit of parametric modelling and I see how something like this could be made. Find the angles of the sun at specific times, project planes at a fixed distance and angle matching around your cylinder, sketch the time number you want on each plane with a fixed pitch and then project-cut back through the cylinder. Would be a pain in the ass though. And a pretty tough 3d print without soluble supports, given all those tiny tiny interior walls and cavities.
Actually printed one on a Zortrax printer a few years back - not perfect, but came out pretty good.
There are two different versions depending if you're in the northern or southern hemisphere. It's fun to show it to people and show how it changes if you rotate or adjust the pitch/angle of the sunddial.
Is this available on thingiverse or something? I’d very much like to try my hand at printing it on some Prusa’s I have access to. But don’t think I’m up for that big of a parametric modelling challenge.
I have PETG bog planters sitting out in the sun doing just fine. I print PETG all the time on my prusa printers. Just be sure to dry the filament extensively for best results, especially on something like this where you don't want a lot of stringing lol
That’s a cool project, it’d be interesting to see a time-lapse video through full daylight hours (with a couple extra frames at the intervals when the numbers are clearest).
