You don’t program by candle light? Everyone I know does, especially for low level programming, it takes twice the candles.

intensely_human , to mildlyinfuriating in That pattern

It’s actually kind of beautiful because it makes me think of breaking the grid of space to do some kind of faster-than-light travel.

This could be a ripping seam in the fabric of spacetime at the edge of an Alcubierre warp bubble.

Like a “behind the veil” opportunity appearing as a rent in the backdrop of reality, that you could step through. A secret cave entrance opening in a Zelda game. That feeling.

Why do I actually kind of like the chaos

dragnucs OP ,

You are profeddor chaos.

NaoPb , to linux in What are the main challenges in Linux adoption for New users, and how can it be addressed?

Lack of backwards compatibility for older versions of software/games requiring older libs. All I see it lots of pointing back and forwards but it doesn’t get solved.

Lack of legacy drivers for graphics cards. I want to run a new distribution on my old hardware, using graphics acceleration and no screen-tearing. Is that too much to ask?

If a program is executed through a wm, have it submit errors to the wm as well so I can see why it’s not running, instead of seeing a loading cursor for 2 seconds and then nothing.

I want to be able to do 99-100% of what I want to do using a GUI. Even installing drivers and changing settings. I don’t want to have to change things in a text editor just so I can have a simple shortcut on the desktop. I’ve learned how to do it and I can do it in my dreams now, but that doesn’t mean I like doing it.

powershell is litterally out of the picture.

Okay, but depending on how “female” is said, it is often used in a derogatory way by incels and misogynists.

I don’t think I’ve ever been referred to as female outside of someone being creepy… I also haven’t heard men referred to as „males“ outside of bad romance novels either. You may now downvote :P

What about the Cortex M processor? For homeoffice?

For organization?

In most programming I have done, we treat the users as the dumb mofos. In Java, the programmers are treated as the dumb mofos. As a dumb mofo, I have a great dislike toward Java’s standard development ecosystems.

henfredemars , to programmer_humor in finally there is a perfect monitor for Java programmers

I have a monitor that’s almost like this and it’s surprisingly nice. It feels like a two-monitor setup. Two actual monitors would probably have been cheaper, but I got mine from work, so it wasn’t a factor.

The real advantage of having two actual monitors is being able to flip one vertically for reading code.

EDIT: a word

VanillaGorilla ,

I bought one after some months of remote work in 2020. Then when I started my new job they gave me another one (different manufacturer but exact same panel size). I needed to rearrange my desk a lot, but holy shit so much room for error messages!

Yes, I'm a Java developer ¯_(ツ)_/¯

This is why pirating games that aren't available to be bought anymore is never wrong

Yeah, say I want an old need for speed game, either buy a disk for a high price that I can’t put in my disk drive-less PC or pirate it…

Hmm I wonder which one I will choose
