This makes me get meta very fast: OP created this post, so they aren’t lurking. It’s isn’t their first meme either, the profile shows about a meme per day.
So the lurking part isn’t about OP. But is the other? Is it like everyone should contribute, even lurkers; or is it rather if you don’t contributing via post, at least support financially?
Neither would be morally bad, don’t get me wrong. I’m writing this to distract from the fact that I’m in the upper category of the meme.
I started donating $1 per month, which I probably wouldn’t have if you hadn’t posted the link (happy to contribute, but honestly I lack the motivation to seek out the opportunity myself), so it did make a difference!
Jokings and donations to the development of Lemmy aside, aren’t we a whole nation of Lemmy server hosters with no users just hoping you’d come over make communities and stuff?
You know someone on the team (probably me) that is gonna pontificate TF out of the comment too and you’re gonna get a 10 min diatribe on a 5 line function lol
I’d just like to interject for a moment. What you’re refering to as Veganism, is in fact, Arch/Vegan, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, Arch plus Veganism.
No offense but this is kind of what happens in real life too. Nazi shows up to local bar. Barman or owner doesn’t throw them out. Eventually they invite their friends. It winds up being known a Nazi bar. People who don’t want to associate with Nazis no longer visit the bar. This is why intolerance of the intolerant is a thing.
Yeah, but the difference is that the nazis wouldn’t be right or even honest, unlike the ones who oppose bigotry and genocide. You can’t tolerate intolerance to death.
Fez 2 was announced as “one more thing” at the end of the June 2013 Horizon indie game press conference, held during the annual Electronic Entertainment Expo.[111] The project was canceled a month later following a Twitter argument between Fish and video game journalist Marcus Beer. In an episode of Beer’s GameTrailers show Invisible Walls, the journalist criticized Fish’s response to questions about Microsoft’s Xbox One self-publishing policy change. Fish replied on Twitter with condemnation for the industry’s negativity and, in a final tweet, announced both Fez 2’s cancellation and his exit from the industry.[110] The news came as a surprise to the rest of his company,[112] which has not commented on upcoming projects other than ports since the sequel’s cancellation.[113] Polygon listed Fish in their top 50 newsmakers of 2013 for the social power of his “caustic use of Twitter”.
That’s true, I don’t! Is it pronounced the same in all regions of France? Does Quebec French pronounce it differently? I know very little about French, this just made me laugh.
It would be pronounced like a female cat, Chatte gé pé té. But most of us Quebecois would probably pronounce it exactly as in English, with an English accent.
Linux has always been my go to for that specific use case as well, and I honestly have very little Linux experience. Linux just makes bizarre half broken hardware, like bad ram, work.
Correction: POP!_OS has their own APT deb farm that has the latest hardware stack. This includes the proprietary 535 nvidia driver and later as well as the kernel and mesa.
This is part of the history of the distribution as it was made to support system76’s latest hardware lineup on top of an Ubuntu base.
Nouveau is the libre driver for Nvidia on GNU/Linux with Nvidia slowly segregating their proprietary driver into a firmware blob.
Elementary OS didn’t work for me (broke during install – people online said it was video drivers), and on mint and Ubuntu gaming wasn’t working exactly right. In pop os 85% of my games run though
The first thing I installed windows on was an discarded office tower that I had to put new memory And hard drives in. Shit was ancient and specifically did not want anything but windows installed on it. Installed Linux anyway. Works great. No specific hardware
But that’s not the real issue. The issue is that any Chromium-based browser – open source or not – helps Google maintain hegemony over web standards. Even if makers of other Chromium-based browsers try to maintain a fork of the rendering engine, they’ll be perpetually playing catch-up removing user-hostile misfeatures because Google controls the upstream branch.
Google still has control over Chromium. Manifest v3 is a Chromium thing, not a Chrome thing. All forks of Chromium will get it and none of the browsers using Chromium as a base has moved to fork and maintain their own version of Chromium.
This means that Google effectively has a monopoly over all browsers that aren’t WebKit or Gecko based, which is a tiny portion of all browsers. Leading to Google deciding how people access the internet. It’s already worrying that Google is the internet for a lot of people, the fact that they can do more or less anything with Chromium means that they can do whatever they want with the web standard.
That should be a major concern for everyone. Chromium needs to be taken away from Google.
I'm never giving it up out of principle, but I dunno about the RAM usage. Firefox was above 7GB last I looked. I have RAM to spare though, so I don't really care.
The only other fast way to fight it is with violence, but without clear national unity and already decent leadership it usually results in some form of autocracy, making the situation worse.
Edit: violent revolution* usually doesn’t work, but violence itself can be rather effective
I think you’ve falsely equated violence with revolution.
There are currently arsonists in Atlanta and elsewhere in the US fighting the creation of cop city and projects like it via property damage. That is violence with no danger of creating an autocracy. I’d argue the Black Panthers, the Suffragettes and the IRA all used violence which posed no danger of autocracy.
I do agree that strong group unity, some form of multistate participation, and good leadership and structure, are all very important for it to yield positive results.
