I’m more of a fan of Universal Basic Services, because money shouldn’t really be part of the equation and it creates a tons of loopholes that can be exploited. Everyone should have basic needs guaranteed unconditionally. Food, shelter, healthcare, public transit, and education must be considered to be basic rights.
Logging in to your account with all it implies: Being able to like and comment, history shared across devices, subscriptions (although there’s ways to import your subscriptions into NewPipe but it’s hacky), recommendations, etc. If you want this, NewPipe won’t do it as it has no way to log in. Many people don’t anyway, but a lot do.
For subscriptions we can use RSS reader, it’s also more convinient to have all other one-way feed based services in one place. Comments and likes are not doing anything on YouTube anyway.
Yeah I agree, but the trouble is you can’t just download from github. You have to also download YouTube from google (and a specific older version at that) and then use ReVanced to modify - and that’s if it even works for you. This creates a barrier to entry that many people just won’t bother with.
Agree, but just like OP said “there is a potential risk of downloading a malicious version of the app” how do i know if links for download are safe, i could just give you this link (revanced-apks.pages.dev) from r/FREEMEDIAHECKYEAH and say they work for me best… I am just saying people need to be more careful what they are downloading and not trusting some random people from internet including ME
I just love how western media keeps talking up some sort of a collapse in China every few months, and people still fall for it. Like the last 1000 times turned out to be nonsense, but this time for sure!
It really shows how a lot of people in the west have a deep seated hate of China that’s been bred into them by the media, and aren’t able to even think about the subject critically.

Если в мастодоне хотя бы можно подписаться на людей, кто говорит по-русски, то здесь все комнаты англоязычные; и даже если кто-то запостит там на русском, то это никогда не найти (через приложение). Если подумать, то нужен сервер для каждого языка, либо теги. Но по тегам тут не принято…
Мне нравится идея сообществ, но язык совершенно не учтён в лемми. Очень жаль, потому что подписываться на людей - странная идея, как в мастодон. Однако все сообщества - англоязычные, а разноязычными должны быть серверы, а не сообщества. В матриксе хотя бы комнат можно понасоздавать…
