They are the cause of every pointless war in that region that we get involved in.
That’s like going out to the local pub and having that one buddy who constantly antagonizes the neighboring booth and then when the shit hits the fan, expects you to protect him, while he runs and hides under one of the tables.
Whenever I would buy rabbit food for a rabbit I was taking care of I would always get ads for chinchilla food and food for other small mammals. Like, I’m not out here collecting animals I just got the one.
The Smurfs were communist… though to be fair there was only 100 of them, and they all had jobs, and enough resources to go around. That one female though…
I support any country’s right to not be conquered by capitalist, imperialist oligarchs whether I like their internal politics or not. I hate it when the US does it, so it would be hypocritical to not hate it when Russia does the same thing.
Yup, my understanding is there is a lot of oil in Ukraine (I think donbas specifically but don’t quote me on that). And arguably more importantly, a major pipeline runs through Ukraine. My understanding is the EU is currently very reliant on Russian oil and they would very much like to not be. Hence, why Ukrainian membership to NATO is so attractive.
I think a lot of people in the West dismiss Putin as a nutjob, but I think there is a rational reason for controlling Ukraine. Oil is Russia’s largest export after all.
All of that isn’t meant to excuse Russia; it’s unethical to murder for oil. But it’s intellectually lazy to dismiss a rational actor (albeit an unethical actor) as crazy. But capitalism gonna capitalism. And until we put an end to capitalism, people are going to continue to murder for money.
Is Russia not the supplier of oil for Europe anyway? They are just rerouting it via India, knowing well they cannot have any alternative. I do not see the motive to “invade” Ukraine for “oil”. Russia is only fortifying Donbass as an independent state from Ukraine due to the horrors inflicted since 2014 US coup.
It’s really not hard to understand. Ukraine discovered huge gas deposits in Donbass, which threatened Muskovy’s ability to control the price like they wanted. There was no US coup, and the horrors inflicted have been from Muskovy.
Shocking; redfash tries to silence their critics by accusing them of antisemitism with no justification or support whatsoever. Typical red herring from someone who has no real argument.
Shocking: anti-communist denies allegations of anti-semitism while repeating nazi propaganda (Google “Jewish scholar double genocide theory” for more info on why equating communism and nazism carries water for nazis)
straw man, bc I never claimed double genocide, and 2) just bc double genocide can be used by Nazis doesn’t mean it isn’t true. Dialectics has really rotted your brain, comrade
Ads don’t make sense. I pay a fiver for the Netflix subscription with ads. I get ads for expensive cars. Do they really think I can afford an expensive car, but not a tenner?
Reminds me how people who have been paying much more in rent each month for years, often decades, are constantly refused mortgages for being “high risk” 🤦
It makes sense when you look at reality rather than lies. They want to own you. Everything is set up to make it so they own you and you cannot rebel because you own no means of survival.
That’s because if the rates suddenly go up, you won’t be able to afford the mortgage and you’ll go bankrupt. If your rent goes too high, you can just find a cheaper place.
I am compelled to point out here that one does not have to go with a variable rate mortgage. I would say one should never go with a variable rate mortgage for exactly the reason you state.
Additionally, rent is insane. One might not find cheaper rent, without getting help from the state. And if you make more than $60,000 a year, good luck with that.
this always reassures me a little bit. all the tracking and targeting and whatever that we’re supposed to be afraid of on the internet, and they still haven’t figured out a better form of targeting than this.
Honestly I was hoping for a more dyslexic moment where the post says “I wanted more toilet seats for fun”. As if she were a totally unhinged toilet seat collector.
This is also why should join a small instance. A large one doesn’t even notice you. A small one does and feels gratitude.
It’s like this with a lot of things in life. The big chains don’t care about you whatsoever. A small boutique on the corner will recognize you and know your name.
I wish we would go back to local farming, grow our own food and trade with neighbour’s for groceries. I don’t like big corps anymore for anything.
I’m on a small instance and a large proportion of the lemmyverse is behind a fog of war. I can see some replies to my comments in my inbox, but not when I open the post. Also I’m seeing comms say they have xyz subscribers but I only see 2. Some comms I see no comments but my own. What I see logged in isn’t what I see logged out. Small instances have their drawbacks too. I’m still happy here though.
(I agree with you on the rest though. That’s my life goal.)
Yeah I have been thinking about this fog of war a bit. How can we spread word about what’s happening so everyone finds out? Because it matters for choosing an instance. If something is blocked on instance level, it should be clearly said why.
Why does logging in hide so much from me? As for spreading the word, I’ve had no luck getting my old reddit friends over. It’s too much trouble for them. Most people will put up with a ridiculous amount of BS.
Oh I see, thanks! But then why am I able to see certain comment replies only via my inbox but not when I view the actual thread? There are so many comments that aren’t visible to me when logged in. I think this is the kind of thing that puts people off lemmy.
Stayed at an Airbnb last year where I left a ~4 star review taking off one star because of excessive noise from the bus stop outside (otherwise positive). Couple months later I get an email saying my review was removed for violating Airbnb policy. Had to contact support where they told me the host had submitted (fake) WhatsApp screenshots of me asking them for money to post a positive review and so they removed my review. No matter what I said customer support refused to reinstate my review. The most alarming thing is that they removed my review without any input from me. Interestingly, the property had added additional co-hosts where that property was their only property after my stay. Presumably these are fake profiles they used to file the dispute so it wouldn’t impact their main account.
In any case, I am never staying at an AirBnb again. Be aware that any rating on AirBnb can be easily manipulated by the host.
Also if you have status at a hotel, perks like room upgrades and late checkout are invaluable.

This is the same reason that Yelp is bullshit. And Amazon reviews. And pretty much any reviews you can find online. It’s why people used the reddit search flag. Everything is gamed and manipulated. People suck.
