lemuria , to asklemmy in What Do You Use Your Personal Website For?

Just basic information about myself and maybe a thing or two I’ve done on the Internet.

Someday if I get the time or the server resources, I’d add subdomains to it to host other stuff, for example “lemmy.example.com”, while “example.com” would just be the basic information, and probably a directory to all the other subdomain stuff.

astrsk ,
@astrsk@kbin.run avatar

A reverse proxy will solve this for you in an afternoon of setup :)

lemuria ,

I don’t have anything hosted just yet, but when I do, I’ll look into a reverse proxy

elvith ,

Depends, my setup is basically the same BUT:

When you access example.com, you see a generic site tells g you this is my Domain and used for some personal projects. On it is a link to blog.example.com (obviously a blog) and other public services like search.example.com (being a searxng instance).

But there’s a fuckton of subdomains that are not linked like nextcloud.example.com, myTelegrambot.example.com, etc.

Also not all are hosted on the same server and some subdomains point to other IPs. For some services I do have another domain, but in general, they’re just grouped with some logic.

Not sure what a reverse proxy would offer me here…

ArbiterXero , to nostupidquestions in What type of scam is this?

Here, let me pay you $700 for this item that’s worth $500 and you can just send me the extra $200 difference. I have to do it this way because it’s your father’s, brother’s, nephew’s, cousin’s, former roommate’s will and I’m just signing the whole check off to you.

Meanwhile the original check is fake and now you’ve lost the original item AND $200 and the bank is investigating you, and not them.

cactusupyourbutt ,

can you legally accept the check and tell the scammer you are gonna wait until the check fully clears?

ArbiterXero ,

Yes, but since you deposited a fake check, they’ll freeze all your bank accounts while they audit and investigate you and everything you do.

It’s very unpleasant.

And North Korea’s constitution guarantees a ‘Right of Relaxation’. That is ink spilled on a page. POWs often have (and will in the future) had those dignities denied.

That’s only when a country follows these rules. Some countries don’t care and will tortue POWs and then ask, “What are you gonna do about it?” Because nobody is able to hold them accountable.

The US broke most of these when they invaded Afghanistan and Iraq.

Unidentified Marine #2: Roger that, sir.

Unidentified Marine #4: Are they (beep) serious? Send them back where? Back to the (beep) death squads?

Unidentified Marine # 2: Sir, under articles 13 and 20 of the Geneva Convention, we’re obligated to take care of and protect any (beep) that surrenders to us.

Unidentified Marine #1: Division has ordered us to un-surrender these Iraqis.

“Oh sorry we thought is was called the Geneva Checklist”

johny ,

They used the term ‘nongovernmental combatant’ (aka terrorist), because a war can only be between states these combatants were not legally POW and thus had no right whatsoever.

dustyData ,

Under law, there’s no such a thing as ‘war’, there are armed conflicts. It is also incorrect that armed conflicts can only happen between states, there are international, non-international conflicts and there are other situations of armed violence. And there are different level of international and human rights law that apply different depending on the type of conflict. There’s also parts of tne resolutions that state that it doesn’t matter what you call them, they’re still POW and you still have to treat them as such. The real problem is that the US hasn’t ratified any of those resolutions and conventions because they fear having any diplomatic oversight, the US has committed so many war crimes that it would take decades of research just to sort out the last half of the 20th century.

Finally, even if international humanitarian law doesn’t apply, then international human rights law still does. But the US plays with rules based international order as their toy because they have the biggest guns and it is hard to front them. And before any of the what abouters comes here to reply, Russia and China are just as bad. No international neocolonialist empire is free of human rights violations.

pete_the_cat ,

I still remember about 20 years ago a female friend told me that she masturbated using a bottle of Bawls energy drink (IDK if they even still make the stuff). It was a glass bottle that was bumpy all over (think of the divots on a golf ball, but inverse) and she apparently used it on her clit/vulva.

When I was a horny pre-teen boy and had no idea how to actually beat off, I discovered that rubbing a silk/nylon pillow with pictures of cats on it felt really good.

@RegalPotoo@lemmy.world avatar

Typically you won’t have real people harvesting emails for sale - it’s much easier to get addresses in bulk by hacking services and dumping their databases - and you get password hashes as well, which makes it a much better value proposition for the time it takes.

Off the top of my head, a couple of things that it could be:

  • Simple stolen card fraud - buy something small with a stolen credit card to prove it works before using it for a higher value purchase. Something where you don’t need to worry about a physical product getting delivered somewhere would be great for this
  • Escrow fee fraud - commission something small, then use that as a hook to promise a much larger commission, except that they want to use some off-site service to “reduce the fees”, then "oops the money has been flagged as maybe fraudulent and you need to pay a fee to get it released"
  • Money mule recruitment - again, small commission (using a stolen card) to establish a relationship, then come to you with a great job opportunity where they will send you some money via western union or something, and all you need to do is send it on to someone else, and you get to keep a cut. The catch is you are actually handing stolen funds or helping someone evade international sanctions, and you end up in prison

Mistranslation of a statement. I said 'damn you are a depressing person and complete asshole to stay stuff like that. I do not make exception for anonymous internet behavior. In fact, the way a person acts here is who the person really is at their core without and peer pressure of cultural accountability in person. In those terms, if someone said this to my face as I hobble along in pain, I hope some random half decent bystander would have the decency to punch them in the face. Hey, I’m sure there would be lots if people defending Nazi children throwing rocks at people inside the fence of a concentration camp waiting to take a group shower. Why should I expect any different here.
