Mastodon can be and should be the new Twitter, in that it's the new place/facility for people to be able to microblog each other.
But it shouldn't become the harsh/bad environment for conversation that Twitter currently is, which is what you're speaking to (if I'm understanding you correctly, from what I just read).
Don't snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory, with post titles like this. You only get one chance of getting people to move over from one social platform to another.
To me, it's short fleeting conversations I see with others and can be up to the second in its recency with events. I don't care if I miss what someone said 17 hours ago
Mastodon does that well, just like Twitter did. It avoids the shit pretty well, which Twitter doesn't do well.
I don’t think it’s misleading or turns people off. I found it very informative and clicked on it because of the title.
I was honestly about to create a Twitter account, right before it was purchased, so I could follow announcements from podcasts and other Internet personalities that interested me. I never did create one though because of who purchased it and the chaos that followed. I didn’t want to support it.
With the recent Reddit controversy, as many have done, I ditched them and began exploring the fediverse. I started with Mastodon, but really didn’t know what to do with it. Reading this post have me some insights on how to go about getting started with Mastodon.
People always say to avoid gaming headphones, but gaming headphones are often the only ones made with built-in external mics. If I'm gaming, I need at least a decent mic. Internal headphone mics aint going to cut it, they are omnidirectional and have terrible quality.
Sure you can get the perfect set up with some high quality headphones and a separate recording setup but there are issues with this. Boom mics are the highest quality of course but they take up a ton of space and are unsightly. You need to get the perfect length of boom and hold it close to your face at all times... it's necessary for content creation but not practical for everyday playing. There are "mod mics" you can attach to the side of your headphones, but there is only one company that makes them (Antlion) and both of their products in this line are terrible. I've had nothing but issues and they are not cheap.
So in the end I settled for the Sony Inzone headphones and they are fine. They are ugly as sin and the sound quality is obviously lacking, but it's way better than most in the category. You can connect via Bluetooth but the dongle works OOTB on Linux. The headphones are poor without a firmware update, and that needs a Windows VM and it's a bit tricky. The update will disable the USB device at points, so you will need to re-enable the USB passthrough when this happens. Pretty easy to do with GNOME-Boxes.
I’m curious what series might be most similar to The Orville in terms of quality. I watched The Orville a few months ago and really loved it and it’s what’s making me wanna finally try Star Trek again.
Strange New Worlds would be the most similar in terms of modern production values, and in many ways the production far exceeds The Orville.
Voyager also feels like The Orville, with a quite similar crew - awkward captain and first officer relationship, a flyboy pilot, a hothead engineer, a young forever ensign, an experienced and trusted security officer, and eventually someone who talks like a robot coming from the crew’s nemesis. It lacks a Bortus, but if you want more Bortus, go look for shows with Worf.
Never had the sort of shenanigans you’re talking about, but there’s definitely been a decline in service – late deliveries, posties racing the clock, and a general sense of perpetual crisis.
Homemade pizza is something else though. Love a nice thin and crispy margherita straight from the oven.
Yep, apparently up here (Newcastle) they're given a minimum time to do each street. Wouldn't surprise me if that's a national thing as the new company tries to make it as profitable as possible, poor postmen and women are suffering the same crap as Amazon drivers most likely.
Back to the pizza... I've made my own sauce in the past (it was meh), not sure if you've seen in your supermarket but Heinz now do passata, was pretty good.
At the moment it does make keeping track of accounts, servers and feeds easier.i think long term though the Devs will crack it and then single stream browsing from all your accounts, servers and subscriptions will be the norm.
I sort of had an intuition that the people I want to talk to, the people I enjoyed talking to over there, would also be the ones who made the choice to come here.
